Artuklu Kervansarayi - Special Class

Almost no English spoken. No parking despite what written in the hotel description, only free parking places in the street in poor condition. Nice terrace with beautiful view but forbidden to stay unless you buy a drink. The ancient building has a lot of character and it’s beautiful, but not the rooms, they are basics and very plain. Good breakfast. Decent wifi. Good location but already at the far end of the Main Street.

The place is gorgeous but no hot water for 2.5 of my 3 days, my room was never cleaned, no garbage bins provided, no water provided, etc.

Very authentic place and superb staff. Very good location, in the middle of the whole old mardin. Full of history, you walk right in to old times.

Beautiful old building impeccably renovated. Huge, comfortable rooms. The staff could seem a bit cold, though. But overall, excellent.

The attitude of the front desk personnel when we checked into the hotel was just a sign of things to come. We could not be accommodated for separate beds and the two rooms we had asked for on separate floors at the opposite ends of each floor. One of the rooms stunk like sewage and we told them about it and asked for a room change, we were told there were no rooms available. All of this communication was delivered to us like we were pieces of dirt, not inconvenienced customers. When the owner finally got involved, we were promised a room change for the next day. They promised to clean the bathroom so that it won't smell as bad. When we got back to the room that night the only thing done was spraying some fragrance to disguise the smell which did not work at all. The next morning we woke up to a very hot room with no AC running. Then we realized the power was out in the hotel. As we tried to find our way through the dark hallways to the other room we kept bumping into other customers, and metal pieces hanging from the ceilings or walls. The buffet breakfast served in the dark dining area ran out of bread in five minutes causing almost a revolt among Turks addicted to bread. Nobody bothered to put some sort of lighting to ease the pain or apologized for the inconvenience. We left the hotel assuming we will be given the promised room change. When we got back to the hotel that evening, not only did we not have a new room but there was no room service done in our old room.

Very nice stay during 3 nights. The staff were very helpful, friendly and considerate.

I read the reviews before booking and was horrified at first, but then there weren’t any other accommodation that fits my budget at the time so I continued to booking 3 Standard double rooms. Plus, I thought that bigger hotels or stats would be better than smaller ones. The bad reviews are still in my mind as the booking date comes closer. I arrived late at around 10pm. My first impression was “Wowwww!”. 1000 times better than what I expected. The room was comfortable and has hot water. I would say don’t believe all the reviews.
