Hotel Van Cleef

Stunningly beautiful. The rooms, grounds, lounge are all impeccable. Concierge staff attentive and friendly and gave us great dinner suggestions as well as complimentary hot chocolate and macaroons by the fire after a long day of site seeing. On top of them having a lovely hotel they also give back to the community and support a children’s home which just speaks to the good people that they are. Can’t wait to return!

I’ll start by saying that if you want to feel like you are staying at one of the European chateaux and in the same time feeling like you’re in a modern boutique hotel - you have to stay at this hotel! It was the most beautiful and luxurious boutique hotel I ever seen! From the marvelous architecture to the warm and friendly service, I’ll deeply recommend you to stay at the Van Cleef hotel if you’re In Bruges. We will definitely come back. I’ll personally recommend and want to say thanks to Elana from the front desk that were absolutely amazing and sweet!

Hotel Van Cleef is a lovely hotel with a lot of history. The staff is very friendly, and the lobby, lounge, bar and breakfast room are beautiful. We also greatly enjoyed shopping in the hotel's gift shop, which carries gorgeous jewelry, gloves, scarves, handbags, etc. The perfume sold at the hotel is truly amazing. What we found disappointing about our stay were the actual rooms themselves. Their decor does not match the rest of the hotel - they are almost Ikea-like. Very odd and cramped layouts, and the furnishing contribute to the awkwardness of the rooms. We also found them a little worn around the edges, unlike the rest of the hotel. Also, one of the 17 rooms is a handicapped room, which they tried to give me before I objected. It is very utilitarian and unattractive with no bathtub, so if it matters to you, make sure you designate you do not want the handicapped room prior to your stay. Also, likely because the hotel is slightly off the beaten path (which is nice), the restaurant is only open the first half of the day, no dinner. We also returned one night to the hotel around 8-9pm and wanted a drink in the bar, only to find it closed with no employees anywhere in the hotel. Even the front desk was unattended. We knocked on the office doors to see if we could get a drink, to no avail. Sad. So, it's a nice, quiet location and has some lovely details, but overall Van Cleef is slightly disappointing due to the rooms and lack of hotel food/drink amenities post-breakfast.
