Macdonald Bear Hotel

Not very Covid Secure, condiments are left on the tables (salt and pepper pots) which can be handled by many people, did not witness any cleaning of these. Room was an executive double, would have been nice except there was a big gap in the door which left the lounge area with a draft. Service was ok, but made a mix up on order, was overcharged (£15 for a double bacardi? Really???) no response to a request for a special something

Disappointing stay. Great executive room but toilet was backing up to start with, aircon didn't work. Went out all day and came back twice out of 3 afternoons, around 4pm to find the room had not been cleaned. Even for hotel prices a glass of wine and a lager at £18 was a bit steep. Staff were great and very friendly but we expected better.

Lovely hotel in a great location for Blenheim Palace. I don’t think the breakfast was good value for money. Our room was on the ground floor in the courtyard and we were constantly being disturbed with the scraping of the metal chairs and tables outside even at 7.00 in the morning

CHECK IN WAS EXCELLENT WITH A NICE UPGRADE BECAUSE THERE WERE NO ROOMS LEFT WITH AIR CON AS REQUESTED.

Nice old traditional hotel, lovely comfortable room. Feature courtyard at rear with tables and service but BE AWARE its probably cheaper sitting in St Marcos in Venice. Check drinks prices before you order. Overall good but felt ripped off which is a shame.

Amazing hotel,amazing location and amazing staff.

Overall a good stay, just could have been a little bit better. We were in the main building and had a large bedroom and bathroom with loads of space. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom very clean. The towels were fairly thin and scratchy, not up to the standards of the rest of the room. We stayed for dinner and the food and service were very good. Drinks were very expensive, particularly after a service charge was added on checkout (supposed to be optional but hard to refuse when it's presented on your bill at checkout). Checkout was quite slow as a couple of people in front of us had problems with their bills. The £10 car park charge is pretty steep. We did manage to avoid it by parking in the road at the back.

Well maintained property in beautyful historical town

Check in was good - we were able to check in 15 mins early. The room was clean and pretty large, but extremely noisy (the radiator or boiler was loud all night). Breakfast was poor, the ‘hand carved’ ham looked and tasted like cheap supermarket ham from a packet, the sausages tasted cheap and some of the pastry items seemed pretty stale. In addition, drinks in the hotel bar were extremely expensive for what they were and the cocktail tasted very watery. They also charge guests £10 for the car park on top of the room rate, which I only knew beforehand due to reviews, I don’t think it’s made clear on the website or within the car park, there’s only a sign once you get to the desk
