Hampton Inn & Suites South Bend

Property could certainly use an upgrade. Checked -in and the receptionist gave me a card key for a room that was already occupied. Air Conditioner did not work properly at all. Failed to cool the room down properly and then at one point during the last night started sounding like a motorcycle, We had to turn the AC off and it got warm in the room.

The room Hotels.com advertised and what i booked were not the same. I booked a room with microwave and fridge. Room had neither. Hotel staff said this Hampton has never offered those amenities. I tried to book the Hampton Inn in Niles, Mich which i saw on Google earth. I punched up my Hotels.com app and thought i was booking this Hampton only to inadvertantly book the Hampton Inn in South Bend. Not happy with Hotels.com.

The hotel is nice but we were surprised by the lack of service. We have stayed here in the past and had excellent service. We only saw two employees the entire stay and we had no room service. We were advised it was due to Covid 19. We were not advised of this at check in so we were surprised when we returned to our room after our first day out and the cleaning people had not come in at all.

The outside was a mess. Completely overgrown. It looked uncared for. Because of covid, there was no breakfast, nor did they come into the rooms daily to clean. I completely understand why, but there was no communication about it, even when we checked in. I had to ask the front desk about both things. We should’ve been told about the changes to the service.

Walked in after an 8 hour rrive to use the bathroom. Found a random pill on the floor. Pulled the toilet paper from the roll only to have the metal supports come off and crash to the tile floor. I had only been in the room 5 min. Night manager was sweet.

The facility is very much the usual Hampton Inn and Suites standards. We arrived late. The male receptionist on duty was friendly and courteous. However, the next morning, when asked about breakfast, the female receptionist on duty was not too pleasant and answered "no breakfast" without offering any explanation.

We were very disappointed with our stay this time- when we went to ask to have our towels switched out, no one was at the front desk then when we finally were able to get help, they said they would bring them to our room. After a half hour, we went back and they directed us to a closet to get our own towels- not very helpful.

The landscaping could be better maintained. Also no amenities because of Covid but shower curtain looked as though it had not been cleaned in a long time and toilet paper in room was half gone. If we are so concerned about Covid- why are we reusing toilet paper rolls and not washing shower curtains???
