What a fabulous property. The owners set out to duplicate the palace concept of the richest rulers in India. They have succeeded. Set on 20 + acres of land this is a definite oasis located very close to Taj Mahal. Everything you would expect from the best in hotels is here. Somehow we secured the property at a 3 star price which made our stay very, […] very enjoyable. Absolutely sensational and it should be considered as one of the best treats for anybody, anywhere you does not have a corporate budget. The Wyndam Grand would have to rank as one of the very best hotels at a reasonable tariff. Details are all to be seen on the website - this is one place which is absolutely true to its advertising. "It is a grand hotel in Mughal style"
This hotel gave us a break from being in India, sheltered from the rest of Agra within its gates. My children loved the hotel pool and seeing the fountain lit up at night. "Nice Hotel ... but missed it on the details"
Overall, a very nice hotel. Wonderful rooms. Great welcome and reception. BUT ... they missed it on the details. The wireless internet did not work (even after two attempts by hotel staff to fix). In the restaurant they forgot to place my dinner order but served my friends as I sat with nothing to eat. And when my food came, it was undercooked. No top […] sheet or light blanket in the room, therefore, had to sleep under a very hot and heavy comforter. "More like Las Vegas than India"
Although the hotel projects a 5 star image, scratch under the surface and this hotel is more like a slightly run-down 3 / 4 star hotel. The design and layout is quite fun and reminded me of a Las Vegas hotel. However it didn't take us long after arriving to spot things that weren't quite up to scratch with this hotel: unpleasant sewerage smells, lack […] of hot water in the rooms, threadbare towels etc. Maybe our expectations has been raised too high by the 5 star billing. Perhaps the worst part of our stay was the a la carte restaurant. This was very overpriced for the food on offer. As the hotel is a bit of a compound, outside options for dining are limited. The Grand Agra is a nice property, overall everything is well laid out, staff is very friendly, (sometimes a bit too much so for my liking), but this is the style of service I have seen throughout all India's 4-5 star hotels, I've stayed at. "Disappointing"
Pros: Nice grounds and garden, spacious rooms, interior design of main building is well done Cons: Large colonies of mould/fungus in room. Travel-desk focused on selling overpriced Taj Mahal tickets but unable to help with simple train/bus bookings. Severely overpriced mandatory christmas buffet (5.000 INR / 70 EUR per head), more than twice the price […] of the ITC buffet (we called and checked). Overall I would nok recommend this hotel. The whole complex is tired and could use a very thorough round of maintenance. Staff is courteous enough, but not very helpful. In the case of the traveldesk, they tried very hard to talk us into buying tickets to Taj Mahal by giving false information (Despite what they say, it is perfectly possible to buy tickets at the normal ticket counter), but could not help us with booking of train/bus onwards. This is crucial for a hotel in North India as the travel desk is the lifeline, without it we had to spend a lot of time calling around and visiting the train-station. Das Hotel ist sehr komfortabel, Zimmer liegen in um einen Garten herum angeordneten Häusern. Schöner Pool, guter Service. Abendessen für indische Verhältnisse teuer aber gut, Frühstücksbuffet war sehr klein und der sonstigen Qualität des Hotels nicht angemessen. Dies lag vielleicht daran, dass Saisonende war.
