We used the hotel for two nights during a holiday weekend visit to Somerset. We had a very nice stay at the Penscot Inn, our room was small but comfortable, except for the pillows which could do with replacing. Our waiter in the restaurant was very good. The steaks were really very good indeed.

Hotel accommodation very comfortable and staff friendly unfortunately very let down by disgusting bad language at the bar by a few locals which spoilt what otherwise would have been a very enjoyable stay. Bar staff seemed unable to control unacceptable behaviour.

We only stayed for one night but it was lovely. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfort with little luxuries thrown in even the building was over 400 years. The owners provided the faculties for today. Drank in the bar and we didn't want to leave.

Dirty room, thin walls, no hot water when I needed a bath, no shower. Charged £20 extra by mistake, had to go back to point this out. Smelly linen. Unkempt hotel staff. Spoilt lovely holiday to Cheddar Gorge

Booked for a 2 night stay over the Jubilee weekend. Lovely stay and was very comfortable. Lovely location and really close to everything we wanted to do in the area. We loved our stay here. Friendly owners, staff & locals & the food was great. We wanted village life & that's what we got. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Each night when we would come back to the hotel it was like coming home. Can highly recommend it.

I think we were the only guestsi n the night we stayed, so it looks like this is more of a holliday period hotel. The hotel itself looked like dated and in need of a makeover with white woodchip eveywhere. However the one newly papered wall and signs of new door frames etc show they appear to be doing some work. From a friendly welcome, to a very spacious room - this place was a great find for myself and my partner. Clean, very comfy bed, spacious room, great service and staff, very reasonable bar tariff (must try the local cider), full of character - very enjoyable stay and will definitely be going back!

The hotel was what you would expect of rooms in a pub. The rooms were clean the food was excellent much better than could ever have expected would highly recommend just eating here even if you were not staying. The locals were extremly welcoming and friendly and enjoyed a drink with them.

Our very favourable initial impressions were marred by a couple of faux pas which you just take it for granted no hotel would ever make these days, when guests are far better informed about the standards they can reasonably expect. The chap who emailed to confirm that food would be served late was friendly and helpful, and whoever answered the phone […] when we were en-route was reassuring about late arrivals. First impressions were of a quaint village inn, serving good food in a friendly and popular local venue; and of a pleasant brother and sister obviously working very hard indeed, running the front of house. The room was rather small, but to be fair, this was to be expected in a period building with quite charming low ceilings and ancient doorways, etc. However, this couldn't excuse furnishings which were old fashioned and shabby and the wardrobe, which was cheap and small. The decor and carpeting in the corridors and stair areas was really very dated and shabby, reminding me of student hostels I used to stay in when I was younger - and when I was not paying a fraction as much! The bed was comfortable, but the alarmingly heavy and spiky metal sculpture held above our heads by a single nail was a bit worrying. And the fact that the very noisy kitchen extractor was on the flat roof just outside our window and didn't shut down until very late was unfortunate. (And getting our bags by walking out the door straight through the smoking area wasn't very appealing). Next morning the breakfast was very good - especially the very nice bacon, but this was marred by the faux pas of sticking us in a separate dining room, away from all the other guests -justified by a lack of room, despite our having booked well in advance and there being several un-laid tables in the breakfast room. They should have been able to plan ahead. My partner was very offended and embarrassed by this, particularly as other guests all walked past us and looked at us on the way to their rooms afterwar Pročitajte više

very poor quality of the room; to switch on the heating we had to ask the reception to do it. The lock of the door was broken. The shower did not work and we were forced to ask the staff at the reception to have it functioning. Unfortunately there was only one assistant at the reception who had to take care of reception, serving breakfast etc..
