We stayed at the Hotel Riu Plaza at the beginning of our trip to Panama. We were upgraded to a very nice suite with a living room, bedroom and two bathrooms. The room was on the 29th Floor with a beautiful city and ocean view. I knew before we booked about the damp smell and was pleased that it did not bother me too much. The breakfasts were fine with […] a nice selection of fruits, meats, and other breakfast items. We ate dinner at their restaurant "Tastes" and were not impressed. We also had drinks at the Lobby Bar which was fine. The pool area is very nice, plenty of lounge chairs and shade if you require. There was a big convention at the hotel for one night of our stay which made using the elevators difficult. We had to wait at least 15 minutes each time we wanted to get into an elevator. Not nearly as nice as the photos make it appear. Lots of problems with the staff and service (too many examples to list) but one example: I went to the gym during gym hours. The employees had the door locked and were laughing away and refused to open the door for me. Finally- the room service food is really BAD. Stayed here for 2 nights. Hallways and room have a distinctive musty smell. Pool attendant was throwing chemicals into pool around 4pm on a weekend - cant they do this when pool is closed? Concierge gave us directions to local restaurant that were wrong. Next night, they sent us to restaurant that was close. We were catching an early flight, buys couldn't […] print boarding passes at hotel as business center didn't open until 7am (meanwhile there were at least 5 hotel employees hanging around the front desk area chatting). This hotel was beautiful and the rooms were very nice. It could have been perfect but the comfortable beds were let down by cheap foam rubber pillows. Internet service is miserable. The Business Center is unique to say the least. In order to print a document you must email the document to the Club Room and then the attendant will print your email. Pretty bad smell in the rooms when you come up on floor 20 and above, lots of humidity... The reception finally chnanged me to floor 12 instead that was a better choise. For me the hotel is very well located for most travelers, it is a financial neighborhood, close to the old part(colonial) and the main bussineses. I needed a place to stay on the way from Chile back to Houston since Copa did not have a connecting flight the same night. Riu came with a 50% discount rate, and what I got well exceeded my expectations. Very nice hotel, well designed, with spacious rooms, helpful personnel, good restaurants, free interntet, excellent buffet breakfast...
