Sandalwood Hotel & Retreat - Vainguinim

The hotel was more like a mini home stay amongst all tourists - foreigners, families, couples. We really enjoyed the food, the hospitality, the room location and the view outside the room as well. Wifi facility was really good in terms of the internet speed. Bathrooms were clean, neat, except for the humid odor which was negligible after a spray of […] room freshener we requested to the room service. In room coffee, water, other facilities, lighting, etc were just to the perfection. We have stayed at St. Laurn Business Suites, which was no where near the Sandalwood Experience. I think that Sandalwood is perfectly adequate, although I have stayed in several places in the vicinity of Sandalwood that cost roughly the same amount, but offered a lot more charm. Sandalwood is situated close to a lovely beach ( a rare find in Goa, since private beaches tend to be filthy) Sandalwood boasts a pool as well. Both of these things I consider […] a giant plus. Otherwise, the rooms generally have a "motel" feel about them. The restaurant service is great, however the space is sad, and the food is just so-so. I will stress however, that the people who work there are lovely and kind. I particularly liked a waiter named Francis with a personality that helped make my dining experience tolerable. He managed to take my mind off the food and the shabby ambience. I was perfectly content there, and was willing to overlook shortcoming, but when pressed for an opinion, I have to admit that compared to other places I've stayed in the same price range, Sandalwood is just a little on the shabby side, but it has potential. This is only my opinion. One man's trash is another man's treasure. There is nothing about the place that is unacceptable, but there is a HUGE amount of room for improvement. And by the way, my job is reviewing hotels and restaurants for a well known travel magazine and series of guide books. For the same price but with oodles of charm, another resort close to Sandalwood called Prainha made me feel that I was getting a huge value for my money!! Pročitajte više

Satisfied, but the Resort needs to have more economical internal transport faciltity. Extremely expensive. May be they should consider running an airport drop sharing facility for all the hotel guests, in the morning.

The staff were extremely helpful, courteous and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. A hotel car took us to the local shopping centre. There was really nothing nearby except the beach. A totally relaxing stay, which was just what the doctor ordered. If you just need to chill, with good food and nothing to distract, then the Sandalwood is most definitely […] the place to stay. Hotel wasnt great, but i must recommend the restaurant and the bar and the staff where very helpful.....the beach close by wasnt the best and found that there wasnt alot to do in this location. But the staff where very friendly and kind.

Overall it is very good experience, but the convenience of hotel location is little bit far from Panjim and the local transportation to the hotel is not there some are available but charging too much...my suggestion hotel should provide transportation at market prices...

We went to goa for the very first time and we found it very comfortable due to the good hospitality from the hotel staff and restaurant staffs was really an excellent with the service and food. Morning BreakFast is the awesome with different menus on every day with cook standing by to service whatever we requet to prepare immediately and serving us […] with fulfilment. Prem from Food & Beverage manager who helped us in arranging food and provided discount on food. The beach was a 3 min walk from the hotel, nice clean beach, but we mostly spent time in the hotel lawn & pool, my 1 year old son enjoyed himself walking around the property, and swinging away in the lawns. The hotel is Near University area of Goa. Very scenic & relaxing. Great food. Taxi services can be taken from the travel desk at the hotel. Although a bit costly due to the location of Hotel from various places to visit in Goa. None the less the stay was excellent & with out any hassles.

The location of the Sandalwood Hotel & Retreat is not ideal for travelers who enjoy being surrounded by the local culture and have any sense of curiosity or adventure. Other than one local casino with no visible clientele, there is nothing in the local vicinity of this hotel. The beach is close, however any venturing off a very narrow path once you […] arrive will attract the attention of security guards from another nearby resort. The venue offers a free daily shuttle into Panjim in the morning and into the Dona Paula Jetty in the evening. The morning shuttle to Panjim can be used to find cheaper taxi services to negotiate daily tours and the like, while a stroll around the city is also nice however limited. Rickshaws back to the hotel should cost about Rs.140+. There is very little to sea at the Dona Paula Jetty, which attracts large volumes of domestic tourists. It is also very difficult to arrange transport back to the hotel from this location. Aside from the locations isolated nature, everything else at the hotel is nice. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food quality is very good (if you are a foreigner they will constantly remind you that chillies are hot). The description lists a coffee shop and a bar, however these are only opened on when required and service varies. The pool area is also suitably relaxing, however the sort of domestic Indian traveler who visits this location usual seek for the pool for entertainment rather than relaxation! Pročitajte više

First off, I wasn't very happy with the hotel. The machines in the work out room didn't work, their tour advisor didn't know about tours, and they were just all around disappointing. Don't stay here - look at other resorts in Goa & pay higher prices ! I needed 4 changes of rooms to get a room with wi-fi reception, and only after hotel IT person made many room calls, and the numerous room changes. Hotel reception staff varied from very polite to downright rude. I complained o management. The electricty went off an average of 7 times […] a day - both at mornings and night times. Totallly unsatisfactory when working on computer & loss of material. No explaination was forthcoming from management. Breakfast was listed as 7am start. On 2 occassions, staff were still setting up at 7.55am. Selection of breakfast items was very restricted. The overall comment on this facility was "what will go wrong next !" The advertised hotel classification at 3 star is too high by western standards and should be re-classified to 2 and one half star maximum. Our room was preety big and we had balcony. Air condition was working not to loud . Bathroom clean, pretty big and with hot water during whole day. WIFI worked fine in the room. We had ordered and […] confirmed twice trip to waterfalls (D....) but nothing was arranged. From Travel Agency in hotel charged us 4000 RS, but you can easy get it for 3000 rs from "drivers who`s standing on the street. Breakfast, which was included in price was good with had severel choices, mostly Indian but we were able to get toast, corn flakes, omelets. If you want to eat diner, I would recommend another place then restaurant at Hotel Sandalwood. We had to wait ages it was preetty expensive and what we had got it was nothing really special-0plane food. Quite close to hotel (walking distance10 minutes-up to main street and then to the left) you can find "Soft Rock Cafe" - looks pretty bad for outside, like dinning place, but they served lovely food and half prices.
