Best location for that side of the city's events, nightlife, restaurants. Triple Delux room was great for the price. Clean room, mattress-pillow firm & comfortable. Fridge & safe in wardrobe and awkward to get to. Showering at popular times meant hot water and water pressure was intermittent. Staff very helpful. Be ready to stop the car and use their […] trolley for luggage into baggage room as carpark is too far if you need to carry. Baggage room is locked and safe but not "managed" so dont leave valuable items there. TV but no DVD player, no room phone. Ice, laundry room, books available on 3rd floor. At this price, there is little or no competition I could find for this location. It is right on Hyde Park and so easy walking distance to Sydney sights. It is also convenient for rail and bus links. The hotel is well presented in main areas. My room walls were quite grubby though- that's the down side of white walls. The room itself was clean and tidy. […] The shared showers were reasonable. I've seen worse and I've seen better. These could do with a little more attention during the day. Breakfast was good and for a low price, you can upgrade to a cooked breakfast. In summary, if you're on a budget, but not to the point of staying in a hostel or out of the CBD, the Y Hotel is a great option and one I would happily use again. We were shocked when we arrived and found out we were staying at a YMCA. I went back through the hotel discription and that information isn't listed. I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom. The room and hotel facilities were fine and adequate but the water pressure in the shared bathroom shower was atrocius amd the hot water fluctuated between freezing cold to scalding hot within 1/4 inch turns. Good location but the room was very basic for the price. I stayed over New Year which is going to put all the prices up but even then it was expensive. "Faulty shower, faulty service"
We stayed in a room with a shared bathroom. When we tried to use the shower there was almost zero water pressure- just a tiny stream of water that drizzled from the bottom of the shower head. there was also no way to properly regulate the temperature- with both taps turned on to full, the temperature still fluctuated wildly from icy cold to scalding […] hot. We alerted staff to the problem and they shrugged their shoulders, saying it was normal and that it happened often when 'too many people showered at once'. What does that even mean? When we asked what time might be better to shower they said they couldn't really say- it could be any time. Not at all helpful!! The temperature that day was approaching 38 degrees. Needless to say, not being able to shower properly detracted significantly from our stay at the Y and our time in Sydney. Our room was clean. Bedlinen was clean and comfortable. The mattress was pretty uncomfortable. The laundry on our floor didn't seem to be vented to the outside- it was oppressively hot in our corridor as a result. "Great hotel for the price"
Great continental breakfast. Had coffee, tea, OJ, great croissants and cereals. Upgraded to eggs, bacon and sausage for 6 Australian dollars. Very generous portion served. Staff was excellent-very friendly and helpful. They let us use electricity converter with $10 AUD deposit returned after gave it back. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
