Garden Island Inn - Lihue

It was great, It is a hotel room not a resort, so they are smaller no resort fees but with the best one on one service. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have chairs, beach towels, snorkel gears,coolers, dvd, etc to lend ( no extra charge!!). Granola bars and muffins+ coffee in the lobby. Coffee and tea in the room with fridge and microwave, […] plates, mugs, plastic utensils, etc. The room is quiet,clean, shower very small with ok water pressure. The sound of the water falls helps to sleep but when you turn the AC it muffles all sounds. Ah, there is no safe in the room but I didn't have any problems leaving my comp behind. I was on the first floor and I felt safe. Grounds are well maintained. This hotel is very cute, the area is next to the harbor (doesn't look good) and to the Marriott .Several locals and hawaiians stay here. Pročitajte više

We were visiting Kauai for a wedding on the beach in Hanalei for our daughter's dear friend, whom we think of as our adopted daughter. We wanted a place to stay for two nights, I can't say enough regarding how pleased we were with the Garden Island Inn. The whole staff that we had the pleasure of meeting were wonderful! Jan, Germaine, Joyce, Sheila, […] and even Pat, who was working out by the garden, were so friendly and accommodating. The Inn was beautifully decorated, cozy, clean, and they even had beautiful lights decorating the Inn at night, which so-welcomed us back after our coming home from touring. We especially loved having the availability of the Inn's beach chairs and towels. We threw them in the car for the day, and enjoyed having them for use when we stopped at the beach after visiting the mountain areas. We enjoyed the Inn so much, that we reserved a room there for our last night's stay on Kauai, before we flew back home. We are looking forward to visiting Kauai again, and will certainly look forward to staying at the Garden Island Inn again. This is a great location as it is 5 minutes from the airport. I had been on Kauai for a week and was catching an early flight to Oahu so I wanted to be close. Besides being close to the airport you are in Lihue with all its amenities. There are a number of good restaurants within walking distance and more with only a few minutes drive. While it was clean always, was disappointed in the "kitchenette." I had planned to prepare simple meals but that was impossible with horribly unsuited resources in the "kitchenette." Great location across from shopping, dining and a great beach! The hotel is decorated with bright paintings and murals by local artists which added a great touch that one doesn't get with hotel chains. We were pleased with it. We were especially pleased with the breakfast - a tasty collection of items placed in our unit. This allowed us to prepare and enjoy our breakfast on our own schedule. We often are unable to take advantage of B & B breakfasts because we leave early for outdoor activities.

We needed one night's lodging before we could get into our condo and chose Garden Island Inn. Bed was terribly uncomfortable, a window unit A/C was on when we got there (totally unnecessary) and it smelled a bit mildewy. Not horrible horrible, but I wouldn't stay there again.

We had a great room with a wrap around private balcony, a little kitchen area, had a king size bed with a twin bed. The staff was sweet let us borrow DVD,s, beach towels and gave us popcorn with our movie. This hotel is great. The rooms are clean and in good condition and the staff is super-friendly and helpful. The hotel is 3 minutes away by foot from the Kalapaki beach, and very close to a few good restaurants. I'll definitely go back next time I need a hotel in Kauai.

Everything was great, location, atmosphere, friendliness of the staff. Our unit was quite large. My only negative was the bed was a bit uncomfortable, and the air conditioning unit had to run a lot and was noisy.But I recommend it for a more authentic experience on Kauai.

The Garden Island Inn is a great place to stay as you arrive or leave Kauai. Actually I think it would be a great pace to stay for your whole stay on Kauai. We stayed there when we arrived, it is only about a 5 minute taxi ride from Lihue Airport, after a long flight from Chicago, just to get our bearings on the island and rest after the flight. We […] found it so comfortable, friendly and convenient, that we also arranged to stay there while waiting for our flight home. (they even had a short stay price, as our flight didn't leave until 9:35 pm and we left our condo at 1100 am. and needed a place to stay in the meantime). We actually stayed in a condo where daily clean-up service does not occur (i.e. making beds). However, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything except food and there was a clothes washer/dryer available in the condo. It was clean and cheerful, had lots of pillows and 4 balconies. We liked the hotel very much but wished we weren't so close to the office. We would have wanted a 2nd or 3rd floor so we could have an outside space to dry bathing suits. The place felt quiet and private even though we were close to restaurants, shopping and the beach. Most of the front staff were very nice...one not so much. We have timeshares on the island and decided to fly in the night before so we didn't lose our first day at our resort. We chose the Garden Island Inn b/c it is one of the oldest hotel/motels on the island and we enjoy the old Hawaiian traditions, as well as the nice low price. We were not disappointed. This is a small older hotel located at the harbor in Lihue. The staff was extremely friendly. Our flight into Lihue was delayed and we did not arrive at the hotel til after midnight and found an envelope taped to the office door with our name on it and the room key. This is a nice place to stay overnight, but probably not for a long stay.

Our family (2 adults and 1 teenager) needed to be self-catered so we stayed in the apartment associated with the Garden Island Inn, not in the Inn itself. (Though we would have loved to have stayed at the Inn!) The apartment is showing some signs of wear, but was very clean and comfortable, and well appointed, and had a great view out over to the beach. […] All the staff were absolutely marvellous, happy with suggestions for things we might like to do, and with no request to hard to sort out. BTW the artwork in the rooms was simply outstanding and we've never stayed anywhere where the painting in the rooms were such valuable (>$4K) originals. The complimentary videos, towels, beach mats, boards, drinks, snacks and even golf clubs made everything so comfortable. We had a memorable stay and have already planned a return visit.
