We had a corner unit in the main building. Woods with a balcony on one side, gardens outside the other window. Great economical choice. Good restaurant and shopping suggestions were provided by staff.

We had requested a double queen (or double double) and a roll-away bed. When we arrived, the hotel had not received the note about the roll-away, but said they could accommodate us. The bed was delivered, but there was no room for it. The manager did help us move the very heavy furniture in order to use the bed, but it was no easy and he wasn't particularly […] happy to help. The room worked for us, but the roll-away was very poor and uncomfortable. The grounds are quite nice, but the place really needs some updating, painting, etc. It's pretty tired and worn. We were greeted by friendly staff. The small cottage we stayed in had a single and double with country/floral doona covers. The heating was good and everything in there met our needs. The best sleep I have had in weeks - must be the country air and comfy bed. Will definitely come back again :-)

Only stayed for one night on our way down the central coast. The staff was very friendly, and gave me a call to make sure we were ok as we didn't check in until late in the evening after getting off work on Friday. I would recommend a cottage. I really enjoyed my two night stay. The cottage was clean and had all the comforts of home. My only concern would be if you are a tall person these cottages are perfect for small people - I am five feet tall and I felt like a giant in the cottage. I will go back again.

We arrived for a late check in on a chilly evening, turned on heat and went to bed. When we woke up in the morning, we were freezing. I called the front desk and the woman said "Oh I can call someone and see if they can come out and fix it" No apology for the inconvenience. The bed was pretty comfortable and clean. Carmel River Inn was not what we expected. From the pics and the reviews, it seemed like a nice, clean place to stay. Moderately priced so we weren't expecting perfection, but what we found was not good. From the outside, it looks like it really needs some repair and a paint job. Our room was very old. The curtains did not close all the way on our sliding […] door balcony so you could still see light coming in the whole night. The bathroom was way outdated and dirty. There was caked on dirt in the shower as well as outside of the shower door and rust on the door. There were stains on the linoleum floor and stains in the bathroom sink. The inside of the bathroom window was visibly dirty. The carpet was the kind that cheap offices use. Our sheets were not fitted to our bed. They only reached to the foot of the bed. The rest of mattress was exposed. Our extra blanket looked like something had chewed through it. Their choice of framed photography in the room was a picture of an extinguished cigarette and a chewed up piece of gum. Really? Of everything you could pick for art, that's what you pick? Lastly, there was trash outside our balcony which ran along the "river". We let the front desk person know about all of these issues on our way out. She wrote them down on a post-it note. Everything about our quick stay here was great except our loud neighbor, which of course is not the hotel's fault at all, but the walls were a bit thin... Otherwise a very cute, well run, and comfortable retreat.

This place is perfect for what I wanted. The check-in was very smooth and easy and he took the time to point out places to visit and eat as well as the little gems on the property. There are hammocks and swings on the property which I really enjoyed the first evening at sunset (with a glass of wine). My room was in the main hotel part and it was clean […] and simply decorated. Bed was great. Only bothersome aspect was the noise from my neighbors who talked very loudly on their cellphones on their balcony. Not a big deal, I was happy to be out of town! Loved this place. We were expecting a little dumpy motel. Instead were put in a cute little bungalow with a jacuzzi tub, 2 tvs, a queen and a double bed. Fridge. Nice heat. Private parking space. Right off the hwy, but no noise. Lots of outdoor fountains.

I loved everything about this place. The people who work there are very kind, the atmosphere is second to none. My friends and I have decided we will be coming back to the Carmel River Inn at least once a year because it is such a great, relaxing place.

For my price range, this is a 5-star motel. It's charming on the outside and the rooms are calm and aesthetically pleasing inside, with views to the Carmel River. It was just what I was looking for. Easy, inexpensive, and close to Carmel's southern beach. I just needed a place to stay and it worked out fine. I wish there was a way to turn off the porch light at night.

Would stay there again. The hotel is very old and dated but it is cozy, clean and the shower pressure is great, better than most hotels I've stayed in lately.The people at the front desk are very nice and helpful and make you feel very welcomed. The hotel would really benefit with a renovation but I would recomend it and stay there again.

Wonderful setting, Large meadow outside backdoor. Cottage with a patio deck, wouldn't know you were right off highway 1 very quiet. Fireplace, cozyand everything you need for a great romantic getaway.

What a surprise! When I booked this place online I didn't expect it to be such a good place based on my previous experience and the price range. The outside may look run down but boy, when we opened the door of the individual cottage (we booked a 2 double bed room) with patio, we were greeted by 2 big comfortable beds, 2 sets of TV (albeit CRT) - 1 […] of them is located at a corner with sofa and refrigerator, coffee making machine and microwave. The bathroom is huge, with jacuzzi. Only thing is the GPS directed us to a road that's just next to it but cannot get there (road name I'd correct). Small room with paper thin walls, uncomfortable mattresses. The buzzing of the refrigerator was intermittent and so loud in the middle of the night we could not sleep until we unplugged it in the middle of the night. Room was clean and staff helpful after reminding them a few times we needed something.

I was very diappointed in the hotel. The pics look great, then u get there. It an older hotel and it shows. Very small tv in the room. Very very outdated. The light in the ceiling next to the sliding door had not switch i guess it was just there for looks. Old wall style heater that stunk up the room. If your planning on a romantic getaway do not stay […] here. The walls are paper thin. I stayed in a downstairs room and heard everything go on upstairs. Also forget sleeping in. We stayed at this hotel for 1 night over Labor Day weekend to be near a wedding we were attending. The hotel did not look like much from the outside but inside the rooms were nicely decorated and bed comfortable. We stayed in the main hotel. All rooms appear to come with a semi-private terrace. we have stayed here many times before in the motel and in the cabins and always return. The price is reasonable and the gardens at Carmel River Inn are just beautiful! This last time we stayed in the motel which is closer to the highway than the cabins. But we slept well and heard little noise.
