Kite Beach Hotel and Condos - Cabarete

My stay was awful, the rooms has joint doors, the wall leak, the water in the tub when taking a shower run real slow, bed was more like a full size instead of queen, no telephone in my room, no fridge in my room. no elevator. Just not satisfy at all. The mattress has stain all over it.

This hotel is in a great position for kiteboarding,right on the beach,the staff are friendly and the apartment we stayed in was a very good size, however the quality of the hotel was disappointing it needs some detailed cleaning,towel rails, taps shower heads need fixing and limescale removing, the counter tops needed granite cleaner,as they were dull, […] the pool although from a distance looked clean on closer inspection needed again detailed cleaning,it also it would be nice to have have some glasses plates knives and forks etc in the apartments and not have to keep asking for these basic items.some of the buildings need exterior painting, the building we were in was updated though still needed the things done previously mentioned. The breakfast comprised of omelets sometimes pancakes, cereal, fruit like melon, pineapple and toast, the fruit juice was that powdered stuff which has a strange taste,there should have been fresh fruit juices avaiable, I had to go and buy some from the local supermarket, the food at the bar was ok nothing spectacular. The hotel is a nice. Right on a beautiful beach. The first day we were there, the beach was extremely crowded- with people kite surfing or learning to kite surf everywhere. It was so crowded with kite surfers, that it was completely impossible, and dangerous, to get in the water if you were not kite surfing- swimmers could easily have been run over […] by a surf board. Since it was our first day there, we thought that the beach was always crowded like that, so as soon as we woke up, we drove to another beach about an hour away. When we returned, the beach at the hotel was empty, and continued to be empty until our last day there. Thus, I am unsure whether the beach is usually as crowded with kite surfers as it was on the day that we arrived. If it is, I would strongly suggest that you not stay at this hotel if you are not a kite surfer or if a significant portion of your group consists of people who are not kite surfers or are not interested in learning how to kite surf. We stayed at this hotel because of the other good reviews, because nowhere did I read that you should be a kite surfer to stay at this hotel, and because I thought it might be fun to stay here in case I got the urge to learn how to kite surf. While I was there, I did get the urge to learn how to kite surf, but the lessons were expensive. It was $79/hour. The guy providing the lessons (I don't know whether he was affiliated with the hotel) was really nice, and said that he would give me a free 10-minute lesson just to estimate how long it would take me to learn to kite surf. After my 10-minute lesson, he said it would take 3 days (I think it was 1-2 hours per day for 3 days, to be more exact). I appreciated his honesty. That is, he didn't give me a low, untrue estimate, just to get me to fork over some cash. Anyway, if the beach is not usually overrun by kite surfers, this would be a great place to stay. The hotel is exactly what you'd expect for the price. It is clean, friendly, right on the beach. More importantly, the beach is clean and almost empty--just locals and other tourists. I felt safe leaving my bag on my beach chair. The bars keep lounge chairs out front & you don't even have to pay to lay on them. Watching the kite surfers was a blast. […] THe htoel attracts an interestestnig and quirkly group of people. We enjoyed socializing with people in the hotel bar and restaurant. The Location,Beach, some staff & Reception are the only good things about this resort. The food selection & quality is below even DR standards. The rooms are need of majar repairs.Leaking taps,toilets.Ac doesnt always work. Gaps all around outside door to allow sunlight,bugs & noise to enter. Small rooms with no chairs, just a bed & one small dresser. Very […] noisy as there is no sound barriers between rooms, which allows even a whisper to be heard next door. If you book the room with a full kitchen, living room, patio & 2 bedrooms than you get a place that has lots of room & is nice.We were shown a room like this but could not book it as it was under repair & also neede to be painted & new furniture. This place is the place to be if your are a kite surfer and want to walk out your door to the famous kite beach. The place is clean and the accomodations are what you would expect for a 3 to 3.5 star hotel. Breakfast was included and was somewhat sparse (fruit, bread, and eggs if you ordered them) and the restaurant was decent and moderately priced […] for the other meals. Downtown is a 20 minute walk or $2 scooter ride and lots of good restaurants to choose form and very inexpensive. The hotel is very well located to practice kitesurfing. The restaurants around are good. The hotel is clean. Very disappointed by the standard bedroom, too simple, the mattress very bad quality. Maybe next time, it should be better to have a bedroom in the new part of the hotel. Safe place

This was my second time in Cabarete and I have to say I was once again impressed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. The location can't be beat for any kiteboarders and surfers and you can always find someone in the hotel office to help with any questions you might have from cabs to restaraunts or even surf breaks... MNy wife and I stayed here for three days. We could not be happier. The only problem was the air conditioning. We had to move from the first room that we were given due to the intense heat..The air conditioning did not work at all but after we talked to the adiministration they promptly chaged us to another room where the air conditioning was perfect. […] The only problem is that the air conditioning was available only in the dormitory. The other room had only a fan and it did get a little hot at times. The air conditioning units could use replacement for sure. We also had problems with the door lock but after some serious complaining they put a new one on. The one thing that this place has that is unbetable is the friendliness of the staff--the manager was more than accomodating, firnedly and available. As far as I am concerned, Tomas the manager, is now a friend and I plan to to stay in touch with him as well as some other people in the staff. If you do not want to drive (we had a car--)it is perfect. Not in town but a very short walking distance from the town of Cabarete. Cabarete, in my opinion (and I know the country well) is one of the best little towns around. And I would stay away from Sosua and Puerto Plata unless you want to be exposed to some of the unsavory characters that are abundant in those towns. No such thing in Cabarete. the maintenance of the hotel rooms is somewhat poor.A/C not working,no water out of faucet,lose door knobs etc. The female personell at the reception borders on being rude. The breakfast is marginal. No shelter from the fierce winds unless you go back to your room.(or kite board)

I felt the pictures I saw of the hotel were a little misleading. I would like to say though the location & staff could not be faulted in any way, but the room had seen better days. I purposely booked an apartment for the kitchen facilities but was completely underwhelmed by the missing fridge, no kettle or toaster, no microwave or oven, let alone a […] plug for the sink, but found it completely laughable that there wasn't any knobs to control the only 2 rings on the hob. We were told at checking that they don't keep crockery, pans or cutlery in the apartment but if we asked they could supply them - as I paid extra for an apartment I don't know why they couldn't just have it in there ready for my convenience. There were a few other bits missing which were listed on the website like a phone, alarm clock & hair dryer. It would have been great to unpack my clothes but the wardrobes (although present & nice & big) didn't have any rails or hangers so were completely pointless. The room cleaners did a great job every day but most of the apartment could have done with a general overhaul & some bits were looking a bit tired & grotty. I don't consider myself a fussy person but I really don't think the price we paid was reflected in the standard of apartment we got. It would have been really useful if on the website it had stated the pictures showing were mainly of the new (more expensive) part of the hotel. Some of the apartments in the complex looked a lot nicer than the one I stayed in but I think that depends on whether the person who owns it has done anything with it. I did have a fabulous time at Kite Beach & my holiday was not ruined but I have travelled quite a bit & I usually choose a more budget accommodation than what I have just paid & have been more than happy but I did feel like I may have been paying for quantity rather than quality with this one. This hotel is located on a lovely stretch of beach with nice ocean breezes throughout the day. It has a pool and a nice restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. Full breakfast is served every day! It is about 45 minutes walk along the beach to Cabarete where there are many eating, shopping and entertainment.

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Strand und ist sehr geeignet für Kitesurfer und andere Sportarten. Leider ist das Hotel in die Tage gekommen und die Zimmer sind entsprechend ungenügend. Weder im Bad noch Zimmer hat es genügend Licht auch ist das Mobiliar in einem schlechten Zustand. Der Pool war nicht gerade einladend ( Wasser sehr trüb). Im allgemeinen kann […] ich dem Personal (Putzfrau, Bar/Restaurant) eine gute Bewertung ausstellen. Das Essen im Restaurant ist ok. und die Preise sind ortsüblich. Tresor hat es im Zimmer jedoch muss man separat bezahlen um ihn zu nutzen. Für mich stimmt das Preis/Leisutngsverhältnis nicht. Schade den das Hotel liegt sehr gut und die Angstellen geben sich mühe. Immer wieder gerne!! alle dominikanischen angestellten sind überaus freundlich und sehr gewissenhaft in ihrer arbeit gewesen. deren service hat meiner frau und mir am besten gefallen. von 10 möglichen punkten vergene wir 12! sehr enttäuscht waren wir aber über die service managerin des hauses. viele versprechungen die leider nicht gewissenhaft eingehalten […] wurden. sie kam leider sehr abgeklärt rüber. der insgesamt eindruck ist aber sehr empfehlenswert. wer kitesurfer ist findet am kitebeach alles was das herz begehrt. wer vor hat eine kitesurf schulung zu machen, sollte diese bei "Method" (2 häuser weiter richtung cabarete bucht) machen. meine frau hatte ihren kurs dort gemacht und ich als kitesurflehrer empfand die schulung bei john holzhall am sichersten. sicher wird in den anderen schulen am kitebeach und in der cabarete bucht wert auf sicherheit gelegt, aber die meisten lehrer wirkten sehr abgeklärt und es gab viele situationen die ich miterlebte die viele schüler abschrecken würden einen kurs zu machen. da ich selber kitesurflehrer bin, weiß ich von was ich rede. man sollte vor reiseantritt unbedingt klären welches zimmer man in welcher lage zugewiesen bekommt.
