Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Hampton, VA - Hampton

Had never stayed at this brand name hotel before. Was sorely disappointed that they misrepresent themselves as "Suites". Given the price that I payed for a one night stay there. $166,00 for a regular room. I could have stayed anywhere else for have the price. Very disappointed and will never use this brand of hotel again.

It's fine- not the most convenient to Christopher Newport University, but it's clean, the rooms are large, and the price is right.

When booking reservation I was informed they only had smoking rooms for the rate advertised. I questioned the cleanliness/odor issue and was told that they took precautions so that the room would not have a smoke odor. Obviously I should have known better. The odor was terrible. I have stayed at the country inns and suites in Hampton, VA several times before and I will continue to stay there because they never dissapoint. I have always been greeted by friendly front desk staff. My room is always clean and the cleaning staff is friendly as well. There were two things that happened during this stay. First, the fire alarm went […] off. It was brief and never happened again during my stay. No big deal. Second, there were very rowdie children on my floor but that didn't last long either. I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel despite the loud fire alarm that was going off all morning even as we were walking out the door. My significant other and I went swimming in the pool which looked small at first glance but it was actually just right when we got into the water. If you have 4 or more children then the pool may be too small but if […] it's just you and your significant other it's really nice. The hotel staff was not extremely friendly but they weren't rude either I think they were nice. We also got a note the first night we stayed saying the fire alarms would be tested the next morning between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. but they actually started at 9 on the dot and were still going when I checked out. Room was spacious and clean. Free WiFi a nice feature. Hot tub was nice although no towels available. Could have been due to large groups using the pool the evening before? Very nice breakfast area. Breakfast was the usual fare - nothing out of the ordinary. Although I wouldn't give it 5 stars, I would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Nice room, good breakfast, friendly staff. Just need to get bugs worked out of electronic "key". Had to get staff to open doors for us and other guests' rooms because door keys failed frequently. Otherwise a very nice trip to Hampton!

The hotel as service was ok overall. The pools were not as clean as I wanted it to be. The hot tub had what seemed to sand on the bottom or dirt. They were stained pretty bad snd just looked dirty. I couldnt stand it. Overall I was satisfied with my stay. A couple of minor issues where that the heating/ac system in the room was very loud. I ended up turning it off in the middle of the night in order to be able to fall asleep. Overall, the experience was excellent. The Hotel was more than I expected and very well kept. My only observation was that the room was too hot and it didn't seem to react quickly to the thermostat. Other than that, this was a very good Hotel, not only for the money, but judged against any hotel.

Very poor and SLOW WiFi connection. TV was old and the remote did not work. On a positive note, room was very clean and it was a good value compared to other places. Bed was comfy and pillows were soft. Convenient location-close to major highways and easy to find.

I did not have alot of time to spend at the hotel. The hotel check-in was sensitive to our arrival, the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast area was stocked with the usual items that you see in hotels these days. The staff was sensitive to our request and tried to meet our every need.

Overall good to very good. Front desk very friendly and helpful. Maid service not quite up to snuff but it was minor stuff. Breakfast not served until 7 AM on weekends - a bit late for me. I'd stay there again.

Hotel was very nice. However, upon checking out found out that they charged a flat amount per day to the debit card even though no charges were incurred. I did not use the phone in the room. Causes quite a mess with my bank account.

The indoor pool was great! They have the pool open till 10pm and then till midnight for adults only. Breakfast was fantastic! All of the hotel staff was always so nice. Great location to the great shopping centers also. Great family place!

The hotel was very nice. I arrived before check in time to set up for a business meeting and the hotel manager was very accomodating and found me a room available. He was very thoughtful and I really appreciated him going out of his way to help me.

We came "after-hours" and had to bang on the door before we were let in. We were given the keys to the wrong room, but the clerk did run up three flights of stairs to correct it just as we figured it out. Our room smelled horrible, as if it were a smoking room. We had NO soap, shampoo or lotion whatsoever, and had to call twice in the morning before […] it was delivered. The woman taking care of the continental breakfast was very grumpy and obviously put out that we came with 10 minutes left. This was also noticed by other guests, and we spoke about it to each other. We were also not spoken to about a HRBT closure that greatly affected the route to get back to the airport. It would have been nice if the hotel had made a note or sign regarding the closure (only 1 mile away!), as we did not get a paper or watch local news in the 28 hours we spent in Hampton. A very well kept hotel. The staff was friendly and our room was spotless. We stayed in a suite and were quite pleased with our accomodations. My only complaint is the loudness of the HVAC system. It cycled on several times during the night and was quite loud at times.

We stayed for two nights (Fri and Sat) with our two kids (ages 4 and 6). We were pleasantly surprised! Nice room. Clean. Comfortable. And the staff was very warm and friendly. The breakfast was very nice, with a wide variety. We had a king-size, and our littles slept on the floor in their sleeping bags. It worked out great, since they're young enough […] to still enjoy sleeping on the floor. =) We put down a big blanket first, for some extra cushion. The only thing I'd remember for next time is to bring a white-noise machine or fan (the hotel was quiet enough, but I woke up every time the kids made a tiny sound). I usually rely on a room's air conditioning/heating unit for white noise, but it didn't have a continuously-on feature. Anyways, we found this to be a great find, at a great price. This was a very nice hotel at a reasonable price. The front desk staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. My husband and I were traveling with his elderly mother and had requested adjoining rooms. When we arrived, we were told that the rooms were not but Arlette at the front desk did some re-arranging and got us two adjoining rooms. The rooms […] were clean and very comfortable. The location of the hotel is great, close to highways, shopping and restaurants (The Peninsula Town Center is awesome and only 5 minutes away by car).
