Castle Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows - Koloa

Beautiful place, beautiful location. Signed up for an ocean front view thinking we would be close to ocean, instead was 2 to 300 yards from ocean but what a view. Not disapointed at all.

The room we stayed in was a privately owned unit. I dont know who is in charge of the cleaning but, there were long black hairs in the shower, on the towels, the shower door was broken and had mildew. The dishwasher was still full of dishes and the cleaning rag was left on the deck table. There were items to use for the beach but they were old and some […] broken. The microwave was 600 watt, archaic. The sofa bed the also old and very uncomfortable.There was a peekaboo view of the water through the Sheraton. although the resort is "waterfront" it was a long walk through the resort and the Outrigger to get to the beach. The pool was across the street. On the nice side, Poipu beach park was the next beach to the left. great swimming area, lots of turtles hanging out. The Poipu shopping center was right across the street. There was NOTHING 'bungalow" about this place. We were on the 3rd floor, lots of stairs. All I can figure is that the 'nice' area of this resort is operated by Outrigger and the "Castle" area is the lower quality units so dont be fooled by the fabulous pictures. This was our first trip to Kauai and we were very pleased with the accommodations. We stayed in unit 421 (bldg 41) and while it was more removed from the beach front, it was perfect for us and our 5yr old. Very pleasant area. Large well-maintained lawns to walk about. This condo was very close to the beach and the sound of the ocean which was preferable to the traffic noise closer to the highway! We requested a partial ocean view and the setting was perfect. We could see the ocean and the well groomed grounds among the palm trees. The accomodations were excellant and the opportunity to stay in a condo vs. a hotel room was most fitting. There are many nice resturants in the area and the poipu beach is extensive.

Rented a 1 Bd Grdn view for 5 d/4 n 1 day before going to Kauai. The front desk check in staff was friendly. The property is beautiful. Ground level condo. I would highly suggest this if you have kids because they can just open the glass doors and play on the lawn to their hearts content while you are able to keep an eye on them . Unit #87 was in okay. […] I was really disappointed when we first walked in because the decor was obviously from the 80's, but I grew to not care. It served us fine. We were able to eat almost exclusively at the condo with great fresh meals or make lunches to take. Great gas BBQ's. People were friendly. The walk to the beach was awesome. It was very easy for my 3 year old to do and we were at the back of the property so no big deal. There were no creepy crawlies on the property that I could see, but lots of little birds. The beach was beautiful. Wonderful sand and surf and even snorkeling right there! Loved it.We spent most of our time here. Beautiful pool and uncrowded. Awesome beach. If I could afford it, I would definitely get an ocean view. If I go back here I will look for another property just to try something different but wouldn't be sad if we ended up staying here again. The hotel is very comfortable. It is a condo place so it has very few services like room service. The room gets cleaned once a week, bed made and towels exchanged every day. Towels, chairs and other beach needs are attended to. The location is fun with nearby restaurants.

We enjoyed our stay at the Castle Kiahuna Plantation condo - the location was perfect, the condo was spacious and just right for our family of five adults. The condo is a nice place to unwind after sightseeing. The room is large and well equipped with everything you'd expect- a kitchen with all basic pots and pans, utensils microwave, dishwasher with detergent, etc. there was also a grocery store less than two miles away, so cooking homemade meals is a realistic and inexpensive option. There are nice restaurants […] closeby, however. Legendary Poipu Beach is also steps away. The only thing I'd note is to request a top level end unit. There is less foot traffic near you and over your unit. We could hear children running around upstairs in our second floor unit. Also, first floor units open to outside grassy fields, which could be a safety issue. The rooms are very nice and the property is pretty. The pool is across the street at some kind of aquatic center which was not convienant. We had to unplug the shower drain and the water did not get hot for quite some time during the day.

The grounds are really nice! The meandering gardens, ponds, beach, lawn, bridges, and history were great. The rooms themselves were quite comfortable too. However, there is a fatal flaw to the design.... All the "windows" were just screens with plantation shutters over them. No glass on them at all. You heard every conversation that walked by your room... every neighbor coming or going... every sneeze or cough.... Luckily we were there during the "off season" because I can't even imagine it during peak season! If you like quiet, you won't find it here. I was SO glad we didn't have our little kids with us on this trip because I'm not sure how we would have ever kept them quiet enough for our neighbors not to kill us or to get them to sleep with the noise around us. Beautifully maintained grounds. Friendly staff and a short walk to some of the best beaches on the island. Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable experience and a very good value. Short drive to a local grocery store in the town of Koloa if you want to save some money and do your own cooking.

My husband and I just went to Castle Kiahuna for our honeymoon. We had a great time! If you are looking for complete luxury accommodations, these are not it. But if you are looking for a more laid back, comfortable, clean condo style hotel, this is the place! We stayed in a garden room on the outskirts of the property, but it was only a 4 minute walk […] to the best beach in Kauai. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. Our room service was always prompt, and we always had clean towels and a made bed. We really liked the space that the condo offered. Instead of being crammed into a small hotel room, we had a good size bedroom, large bathroom, living room, kitchen, dinning space, and lanai. More than enough room to spread out. The only possible negative would be if you were staying next to someone with loud kids. Since there is no AC, the plantation style shutters stay open to let the breeze in. We had no noise problems, but as we were leaving, some people with loud kids checked in next door and we could hear them. If that would bother you, just ask to be relocated. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay here. We loved the location on Piopu beach, the Expedia Local Expert on site was very helpful, the hotel offers complementary towels and beach chairs, and the resort is across the street from a nice shopping village with good restaurants, shops, and a general store to buy some groceries. Overall, our stay at the Castle Kiahuna was great! BEAUTIFUL grounds! Very close to Poipu beach and the resorts. My only complaint is they didn't offer free coffee for the entire stay - you get a free sample the first day then have to buy it for the rest of the trip. Other than that, we LOVE this place. The property grounds are beautiful and the hotel is situated right on the beach, although this beach is not the best for swimming it is near the best beach on Kauai - Poipu beach. We upgraded our room to have a nicer garden view and the ocean was just about 200 yards away, a nice view of green courtyard and gorgeous trees and flowers. The beds were not comfortable at all and the rooms might need a bit of a make-over although I believe every unit is different and privately owned. I would definitely return to this hotel for the location and the beauty, the property is quiet (we had a newborn baby staying under us and that was NOT quiet but not the hotel's fault.) One major downside was the pool across the street (far away) and the hours - they closed at 6pm. Hotel and grounds were just perfect. The only down side for me was that there is NO POOL on the property as it is located across the street at the tennins club. This is a gorgeous and well-maintained property. The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful, and our stay was extremely relaxing. We enjoyed the full kitchen and access to outdoor gas grills which were cleaned daily by the housekeeping staff. I ran the marathon and wanted to stay at hotel that is close to the start and finish lines. The Poipu Shopping Village is at walking distance to do your shopping and dining with other nearby restaurants in the Poipu area. Also, the beach is also at close walking distance. Since Kauai is a rural island, be aware that there are chickens running around […] the island. But overall a nice, scenic marathon run and great hospitality by the community. The Kiahuna Plantation are condo units which come with your own kitchen and bath, and a balcony or lanai which you can leave you sliding door open and feel the cool trade winds blow from the beach. Although my unit was located adjacent to Poipu Road, I barely could hear the noise of passing cars; so, a very quiet and peaceful experience. Hotel grounds are fantastic, location to the beach great. When paying for a room that sleeps 4 the Hideabed in our case was the worst we've ever seen. We have rented rooms with a Hideabed knowing that it can be questionable, but to pay for 4 people and to have 2 sleeping on the floor as the Hideabed was "unsleepable" was not value for our money. Hotel […] response was an optional air mattress for the other two people which was not what we were expecting. We offered to pay more for an upgrade and were not given any options. To their credit they did offer another room but the Hideabed was just as old and in poor condition. We decided to cancel our booking and move to another Hotel just down the road. Overall it was an awesome place to stay. As a matter of fact, I got tips from other people on this site on which building to ask for and to make sure and get a refurbished unit. I did just that and the people were very kind to accommodate us. The one downside was, we tried to get a two bedroom, but there weren't any available. We have two girls, an […] 18 and 21 year old. So the pull out couch bed was horrible. If they would put better quality mattresses on those, it would have made their nights more restful. I wish the pool wasn't across the street, it just felt like it was part of a different complex. This is for Unit 448 of Building 42, which may or may not be representative of other units as they are apparently condos separately furnished by the owners. Dark and shabby. Carpets stained. Nail holes in walls. The rattan furniture was horribly uncomfortable. The blinds separating all of the rooms were dusty. We turned on the ceiling fan and all began […] to sneeze. Due to the lack of real walls (again, every division in the condo is separated by blinds for ventilation purposes) there is no privacy in the bedroom or bathroom and every noise outside is heard as though it is in your room.
