Initial impression was not great, thought this place was over rated. A day into my stay, I realized how quaint and lovely this place was. My ONLY complaint and suggestion is that because of the palapa style and thatched roofs, you can hear EVERYTHING, bring earplugs. The grounds were beautiful and the hotel staff was very courteous, accomodating and happy. If your not used to a hard bed it's a little uncomfortable but you get used to it after time. we had some hiccups with new towels first couple of mornings but other then that it was a great hotel for the money and close to 5th ave.

Hotel was located in the heart of Playa del Carmen, but you'd really never know it. It felt very secluded and serene. Staff were always very eager to help, smiling and friendly. Juan was especially kind, remembering our names from the very first day we were there. Buffet breakfast was good, with a nice selection of different juices, fruits and foods […] to choose from. Coffee was excellent! Rooms were comfortable and clean, however the bed was the absolute hardest thing I have ever slept on. Each room had it's own little porch with hammocks, which were quite comfy...we should've slept in them instead! Three of us in our party used the Wellness Center for massage....to recover from the uncomfortable beds! Technicians there were very professional, and you can't beat the prices! Definitely worth the money! The beach was fabulous, although you had to get out there first thing in the morning if you wanted a lounge chair, as they fill up very fast. Everything about the hotel was EXCELLENT, however there is a beach bar next door with MEGA SPEAKERS booming unbelievably loud obnoxious music every day from noon until 6-8 pm so taking a nap or enjoying the room in the afternoon is impossible. We just got home after 8 days and nights at Las Palapas. I don't know how it could have been any better. The service, staff, food, drinks, location, beach, everything was just great.

We recently stayed at Las Palapas for the second time. We love it, for several reasons. It's got a perfect location, at the end of the pedestrian-only part of the main street, 5th Avenue. So it's near the action, but it's quiet and private, set back from the street in its own little nature preserve. It's also on the beach, so we could walk from our […] hut to the beach. We love the rooms, too. They are in separate thatched roof huts joined by paths that meander among palm trees and lush vegetation and wildlife. You feel like you're in the middle of a jungle. In our second floor room we had the tall thatched roof ceiling above our mosquito-netting draped bed. Romantic. The restaurant, buffet breakfast, and staff were great. We'll be going back. There are almost no words to describe how precious this sanctuary is. Las Palapas has the best of both worlds; nestled amongst a perfectly manicured jungle & perched on pristine beach, it's tranquil and soothing, yet it's a short walk to the bustle of 5th Avenue and it's delicious restaurants. It's not hard to see why everyone is always smiling that works there. The rooms were renovated beautifully and we slept sound. Our favorite part was lounging in the hammocks on our deck. The food at any of their restaurants is delicious, especially the ceviche! We did not want to leave this stunning place. 30 seconds to the beach next to Mammitos and Kool Beach Clubs, and out the front entrance onto 5th Street and all the nightlife and shopping. Couldn't ask for a better location. Much smaller and quiter than the mega-resorts - MUY BUENO!

The positive reviews don't exaggerate: this combines a peaceful beach-side setting with access to the tourist shops and restaurants. Very happy with all aspects of the accommodation and service and would recommend Las Palapas to anyone.

This place was perfect. It's location just north of the main tourist area so the beach is much less crowded.The grounds of the hotel are kept beautifully and I would recommend this place without reservation.

Las Palapas - the only thing that could have made it better was... Have a mattress topper so if you want a softer bed you can just have one brought to your room. If you select the picture of the garden suite - they should all have the vaulted ceilings, canopy bed with curtains. Love the grounds, staff is wonderful. pool is perfect size for hotel - One more note. PLEASE do not allow people to horde the chairs with their towels. A small fee to be paid if you loose your towel would make the problem go away. we did move towels but people were upset. We woke early and were always able to have great choices for either the pool or sand, so it never bothered us. But some towels just sat there all day. What a lovely little hotel. Everything was perfectly clean and the staff was friendly and cheerful. The beach front was wonderful and we felt safe walking at night on 5th Avenue. Breakfast was delicious.

Hotel Las Palapas was great - very quiet and tranquil. Great gardens and beautiful bungalows. No TV which is great. Smack in between 5th Ave and the beach (North end). Great beach and bar area. All the noisy crowds and stuff is down South if you want to venture down there.

Situation idéale sur la plage et à deux pas de la 5th avenue et centre de Playa del Carmen; l'hôtel est vraiment un dépaysement totale (les chambres n'ont pas la télévision mais cela devient un plus). Service du personnel excellent, toujours avec le sourire et gentillesse.
