Everything was fine except for the paper thin walls between rooms. We could hear every word being said in the adjacent room, and they were taking in normal voices.

We usually stay at the major hotel chain thats name starts with "M" but due to several large events in the vicinity every hotel in the entire county was booked four weeks before our trip. Fortunately we found a room in San Luis Obispo at the Best Western Plus Royal Oak Hotel on Hotels.com. We expected the accommodations to be suitable but less than […] what we were used to. Surprisingly we found the hotel to be modern, recently refurbished with new paint, furniture and amenities. The colors were tasteful and the king-sized bed and easy chair were very comfortable. The in-room coffee, wireless high-speed internet and 40" flat-screen TV were what you would expect in any high-end hotel. Throw in free parking and continental breakfast and you'd think you were at any Court---- by Marr----. Finally, the staff was very friendly and helpful but also adept at keeping the place safe and quiet, as there were several "enthusiatic youths" staying at hotel but there were no incidents during the two peaceful nights we spent there. First of all let me say I am one of those guys that over-research the net before I stay somewhere. My wife and I have 2 small kids and I read a lot of reviews before I make a decision. Cleanliness and service are priorities. This place met the mark on both. Before I wrote this review I asked my 6 year old what she thought. Was surprised at the attitude of the staff when asked about the tv listings--in room list showed CNBC and MSNBC as available channels. When turning to the these channels, the screen said not available. Upon inguiry, desk clerks simply said it was Charter TV's fault and these channels were not part of basic cable. We stayed here before heading to San Jose State University the next day. We would stay here again. People next to us came in about midnight and were very noisy going in and out of their room for an hour and I should have called front desk, but didn't. We were tired from driving up from Long Beach. Continental breakfast is always a great plus, but we […] were somewhat disappointed for such a nice hotel to not have more variety (around 8:30ish) of breakfast pastries, especially bagels. We would have gone to the bagel shop just over the bridge which has great bagels but didn't want to spend the extra money. The hotel could always give away leftover bagels to a homeless shelter/or childrens home if they had extra or find a local need to give the leftover bagels to. We brought two grandsons with us for a short road trip to Hearst Castle. When we got to the hotel, the boys went out to check out the pool. The only problem we encountered was a roll of toilet paper, when unwrapped, was hard like cement and had colored stains on it. Like it had gotten wet, surrounded by something colored, then dryed. Otherwise, very clean, comfortable beds, pleasant staff. Convenient to shopping, restaurants, etc. Walking distance.

It was very nice. The staff was friendly and very accommodating to our needs. Have many amenities what we were able to utilize. The location was very convenient. Near downtown but just across the street from the promanade. The continental breakfast was very good.

Apon our arrival on Thursday, we had complimentary wine and cheese. It was very good. I would suggest you do that on Friday and Saturday as well. Excellent desk service. They even dug into a huge bag of 'left' phone adapters to find a Blackberry charger for us. I've stayed in a lot of Best Westerns and I find them typically dated and stale. Not this place. This is a very well maintained facility conveniently located to the main shopping area. Two guests across the hall from us had dogs in their rooms. At midnight the dogs started barking (LOUDLY). We called the front desk to ask for assistance and their response was "there's nothing we can do"....??!! Parking anywhere near our room was impossible both on check in and again later in the evening after dinner out. The next morning at breakfast […] in their Breakfast room off the lobby we were greeted by too many people in too small a space with long line ups for the single waffle maker, an empty OJ container and dirty tables. We've stayed in countless Best Western hotels all over the US, Canada and Europe. I was disappointed when I walked down the hall to my room (carpet did not look or smell clean), and when I walked in and looked out the window, I was looking at an old parking lot. The hotel was great and the staff was very friendly. The hotel had a little happy hour on Monday thru Thursday evenings. It was neat because we got 2 free drinks and little snacks with it. The only thing I would change would be the bed. It was so hard. All in all, I would recommend the hotel to others.

This hotel is beyond awesome. Not only were they super friendly and helpful, but the rooms were clean and the whole hotel was tidy. The complimentary breakfast in the morning definately hit the spot. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone and I would definately stay here again in the near future.
