Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove - St. Petersburg

The hotel definitely shows that it is from a different time period, but well kept for what it is. Pools and small beach area are nice. It is very convenient for boaters who want to enjoy the area. There is a marina with proper docks, or pull small boats and skis up on the beach. The room was dated, but pretty clean and the facilities seem to be well […] maintained. I did not use the restaurants after others in my group did not recommend it and I don't like eating at the hotel anyway. You have to go over to the beach islands to find anywhere to eat. Overall good facilities ....really liked the layout with pools and beach area. Beach/pool bar could be outstanding but railings need to be replaced with erought iron or something to take advantage of the views. Bartenders all need to be replaced! Dismal service!! Restaurant food ok but slow also. Advise byob and cooler!

We were upgraded to a top floor room with a great view of the bay on two sides. Old facility, but clean with pleasant amenities. Restaurant is fine, not busy, but on Friday nights the locals hang out in both bars.. quite a surprise to us.

We were lucky to find availability. The place is dated, from an earlier era of resorts. It served us quite well.

Hard to find - underneath a bridge sort of in St. Petersburg. Staff was very nice.

We picked this hotel because it allowed pets but everything about this hotel was wonderful. The beach was nice, the pools were clean and well kept. The beach bar was friendly. I didn't use the inside bar but was told it had a greater variety. Also, if you like a certain drink and advise the outside bartender, they can make sure the liquor you prefer […] is available. We were there to visit St. Petersburg and take our child to Eckerd College. Had a pool/beachside room which was great. Rooms were older, but well kept. Very clean. Service was great in lobby and room maintenance. Didn't eat there. Very quiet. One pool being worked on, but other one was great. Jacuzzi is small. Wouldn't go there for the beach as it is […] in a small cove area, but nice marina there & many birds to watch from balcony. Enjoyed the fancier shampoos (coconut lime verbena) and soaps (orange mint) which usually I don't use. Sink area was big, but inside the bathroom - prefer it to be outside, but not a big deal. good for the money,need attention to details,webs on closte corners,trims need some repairs, overall is a very convinient location,st pete beach is only 3 milles away,plenty amenities in hotel,breakfast menu is good, I beleive Hotels are to sleep,and this one is good enough for that,clean and quiet. Personnel is very friendly .

Location was okay. Service and Cleanliness were great. Main issue was air conditioning was working very poorly in rooms even after switiching rooms. Also first room smelled of cigarettes. Hotel restaurant was good and staff always helpful and firndly. Hotel maintained well on the outside but indoor rooms need to be updated.

Pictures say a thousands words...but can also be very deceiving with a little creativity and photoshopping. Not much of a resort, no real private beach, bugs in the room. It pretty much felt like a cheap motel! Oh location is not all that great.

We had 3 double queen rooms b/c we were there for a family graduation in St. Pete. Our bathroom sink didn't drain and had standing water while trying to brush teeth. My shampoo and condition had spilled in my bag, so I was cleaning it up. While wiping the counter in the bathroom around the sink the white washcloth turned brown from all the dirt around […] the sink! The bathroom was OLD and it needs to be updated! The tile was old and dirty! My daughter's room had a.c. that didn't work properly. The maintenance man said keep it on "low"...what?? While we were gone to Busch Gardens, the maids turned it off completely!! It was 97 and 100% humidity that day!! It was so HOT in their room when we got back that night!! What kind of sense does that make? The beach smelled like rotting fish and you couldn't get in the water b/c of the seaweed and trash along the edge. The large pool was sparkling and clean. The pool closest to the restaurant with the hot tub was clean, but smaller of the two. You could go to the front desk and ask for towels, so that was a plus. Some of my family members had a snack at the snackbar by the pool and they said it was good, but a bit pricey. My husband, son, daughter and her boyfriend had drinks at the outdoor bar and said it was nice atmosphere, but drinks were a bit pricey. We ended up going to liquor store for beer and mixed drinks for our next night by the pool. The ice machine never had enough ice in it..S L O O O O O O W to fill up one ice bucket! Ugh! The birds around the snack bar/pool were cute! They came over to our table and took food out of our hands. One of the ladies that works at the restaurant came out and told us all of the birds names. Cute! Our flight out of town was at 5:a.m. so we were checking out at 3:30 in the morning. I called ahead to let the front desk know I was coming to check out 3 rooms. NO ANSWER!! I called 3 times. We were able to check in early and that made the stay so nice. The front desk people were helpful. The food at the restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Once we checked in we did not leave until we checked out 2 days later. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

We had a great time...The view is incredible...two fabulous pools to choose from...a playground for kids...a tiki hut to have a casual dinner...the restaurants were beautiful...the event room was dressy and elegant...We can't wait to come back!!!

Not being from the area, I selected this hotel for its location to where I was visiting. The rooms are okay, but it wasn't the normal upscale hotel enviornment that I ususally enjoy. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would go back again.

First impressions were not good. Colour scheme didn't help - once inside our room things got a bit better. Hotel has seen better days, but I believe it has recently changed ownship so maybe some refurbishment is to be made. It was surprising quiet given the location so close to a major highway. Excellent location w/ two pools. staff was very nice. rooms were average,but you don't spend alot of time in them with the elevated tiki bar steps away. good place to dock boat. two places nearby to launch. Restaraunt food was hit and miss. would stay again!

The private beach is filthy ! The air conditioning did not work ! Looks like they quit maintaining this place about ten years ago. When I complained, I was told that I was wrong. They insisted that, "we run a good hotel here" I wanted a cup of coffee while waiting to photograph the sunrise. I was told that "we don't do coffee in the lobby" and the woman […] who is in charge of coffee at the restaurant just got here so you'll have to wait awhile. The day after I checked out, someone from the hotel did call and wanted to listen to my complaints. I begged her to understand that customer service starts before the customer arrives. We booked this hotel for a nite while we waited for our rented condo to become available. Nothing wrong with the place; very friendley and helpful staff and clean. Could use a facelift; rooms are a little threadbare and dated. Met expectations for us but would not stay for extended period.

Everything about this place was amazing! I would certainly recommend it and go back again.

I'm surprised at some of the mixed reviews for this hotel The staff were uniformly lovely, the room was large, the view to the beach was great, and the shower was powerful. Yes it's not fancy, but it was somewhere I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

The view from our room was nice they just have make the rooms more modern . Like flat screen tv's and softer beds . But they recently changed management and are improving things . So maybe next time it will more modern. But overall the pools and beach view were very nice.

I understand this was previously a Holiday Inn. The location is very convenient and it has a great view of a cove on Tampa Bay. Although near a major highway I had a room on one end and little noise. Given its proximity to salt water, there were a few problems: sower head rusted, slider doors difficult to open, also front door. The front desk staff […] couldn't have been nicer. The restaurant was a disappointment. I ordered a fried chicken dinner the one night I ate there and it was served with totally unseasoned broccoli and mashed potatoes made from a dry mix. Hotel was was one of the cleanest hotels we ever stayed at. It was very close to the off ramp of the expressway but it was still surprisingly very quit. All and all it was a very pleasent stay and will definetly go back.

The location was perfect. Very pretty resort. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The resturant was less than desirable, maybe because we were the only ones there. The food and service weren't very good at all. However, overall the experience was very nice. We would stay there again, maybe just pick another place to eat.

Great restaurant, breakfast was DELICIOUS! Hotel was clean, not smelly, bed and pillows were comfy, nice shower head, nice view, neat stilt bar, pools, jacuzzi and playground looked nice although we did not use. The price was a little higher than valued but I guess that is due to location.

This hotel could use some updates. It was kept clean, but one of the bedside lamps was falling off the wall, the shower head leaked & wouldn't spray well, & there were paint chips hanging off the ceiling in the bathroom. I'm glad I was only there one night. On the other hand, the staff was friendly & let me have a 2 hour late check-out.

The hotel was very nice, great for the price. Lots of choices for rooms, I chose a Marina view which was ok. When I stay again I will choose waterview or poolside. This hotel is not on the beach, it's in a cove, a very stinky cove. The water front rooms are nothing to brag about. There was so much seaweed I don't think you could have gone swimming at the beach and the smell alone made you not want to step outside your room. The whole property was very big and confusing. To get to our upgraded waterfront room we […] had to walk from the front parking lot, in past the front desk, through the restaurant/bar area, around or through the pool area and then to the building our room was in. Just a very confusing place. There was a pier around the side of the building we walked on a few times but with no railing on the edge it made me nervous with a small child. The room itself was not bad. Pretty clean but not very updated. Beds were comfy enough but kinda skinny. We were unable to move them to put them close to the wall to keep the 2 year old from rolling out. He only fell out once. The location of the hotel was terrible. In front of it there was the interstate and that's all. No place close to walk to but within driving distance to St. Pete, Treasure Island and other nice beaches and restaurants. Only had breakfast in the restaruant and it was nothing to brag about. Southern fried potatoes were gross. Don't get them unless you really REALLY like onions and peppers!! We really didn't spend a lot of time at our hotel, fortunately we had family at another nearby hotel that was actually on St. Pete beach and despite the small room there, it was much better. If you are fishing in and around St. Pete area this is a great place. Water front bay view has great view of skyway

ick. our room was waterview, but it was in the old and unrestored section of the hotel. room was small and cramped, air conditioning wouldn't cool. hotel restaurant was woefully understaffed and the staff gave flustered and unprofessional apologies for their bad service. front desk was overwhelmed and was very unprepared for normal 3pm check in times. […] I thought I'd try something different in St Pete - but next time I'll go back to the Beachcomber - where the staff is friendly, prepared and professional. and, they're ready for your checkin generally BEFORE the 3pm timeframe! Place is Ok, the only problem is that it has a strong bad smell al the time, it come from the front beach that shows on the pictures. Can not walk or sit around for long time and it's bad because it has a nice view

The only down side was the comfort of the bed. My husband had no problem with the bed. We had a double (2) beds in room. He weighs 155 and I weigh 280. I did not sleep well. The bed for my weight was very uncomfortable. My hips and back were in great pain. I did not sleep. My husband slept very wel. So if you are a big person the bed maybe an issue. […] I loved having 4 pillows on both beds. The internal area of the hotel was a nice walk around. The view of the boat docks from our diningroom was conmforting. The staff all around were nice to speak to and interacting with us so professionally. They did offer a king bed at the front desk . However, the size of the bed was not the issue. It was the give way of the mattress. Housekeeping checked twicw to see if we where alright with towels etc. I will not be staying there again. This hotel is a secret. It has a great beach, 2 pools, playground, clean an dneat, fantastic "bar on stilts" that over looks the beach. We can't wait to have another reason to go there. We have stayed here before and the rooms have been painted and "spruced up" a bit. The beds/bedding have been upgraded and are very comfortable. The air conditioner was very loud and kept us from enjoying a good sleep. We used the fan the second night which made very little noise. The holiday inn sunspree resort is a great hotel in a quiet, secluded location off the highway. The staff were incredibly friendly, my room was clean and quiet, and they have a great beach bar which stays open pretty late. I had a great experience and would definitely come back.

Enjoyed our Stay! Hotel had great pools and the private manmade beach was a plus on the waters edge! Kids love it, they had a playground for hem too! The workout room was excellent for traveling excercisers to keep in shape! My only drawback was I had to stay in a Smoking room because the nonsmokings were booked up, But the Smoking room was oK it did […] not have a strong unpleasant "Smoking" odor that I was worried about! Hotelrummet var av medelklass ,det possitiva var att de hade uppvärmd pool med jacussi. Hotelets resturang kan vi varm rekomendera , mycket trevlig personal & god mat för hyggliga priser och en vacker utsikt mot marinan. Ett plus till var att man parkerade precis utanför sin dörr, och att de hade bevakning dygnet runt. Det negativa var att personalen […] inte informerade om att delfiner låg och sov inne i marinan till runt 07:00 då de simmade ut i mexikanska gulfen , vi missade detta skådespel med en timme , vi han dock se en delfin hoppa upp ur vattnet. mysig liten strand &marina. Leuk hotel dat direct aan de baai / oceaan ligt. Het hotel op zich is wat ouder, geschat jaren 60 / 70 maar keurig gerenoveerd. Klein terrasje of balkon bij de kamer, keken uit over de zee. Vanaf het terras was het voor ons 15 meter naar het zandstrandje. Mooie tuinen, 2x mooi groot zwembad, whirlpool en aan het strand een bar / lunchcafé. Kamer was […] licht en vrolijk ingelicht, schuifpui en schoon. koelkast, kluisje, koffie en thee faciliteit maar magnetron ontbrak. Goede Airco, kleine badkamer maar netjes ingericht en onderhouden. Hotel heeft restaurant met goede keuken voor (betaald) ontbijt, lunch en diner. Er is een bar met poolbiljart, tennisbaan en outdoor kegelbaan. Gratis stolen en verhuur van kono's etc. 3 a 4 mile van downtown St. Peterburg, geen echte opzienbarende stad en de baai over via de snelweg en toll brug ( 1 dollar ) in de richting van Bradenton en Naples.
