Hard mattress, but all of Turkey seems to be this way. Great location and friendly helpful staff.

I loved the hotel and the convenience to all the sights. The service was fabulous and also the food for dinner was excellent. the only complaint we had were that the beds were too hard. Other than that would definetly go back. Great place.

Stayed for a week and was very comfortable. Room was small and in the back--try to avoid because of alley noises: cats, garbage pickup. We arrived at the end of our 24 hour journey & were enthralled by our location right opposite the Blue Mosque on the Hippodrome. Hotel staff very helpful, gave us choice of 2 rooms . We did not find the Alzer to be nearly as friendly, or as good a value, as other reviewers. We would not return. While the Alzer is generally kind of shabby, and lacks some of the services of a better hotel (like doorman or concierge), we might have overlooked those deficiencies IF the Sultanahmet neighborhood were different. The Alzer's location (across […] the street from the Blue Mosque) is not all it's cracked up to be. The Hippodrome/Sultanahmet neighborhood is prime tourist real estate, and the goal of every cabbie and every business there seems to be "fleece the tourists". You CANNOT get a cab to take you across the Golden Horn without a ridiculous up-charge ("My meter is stuck..."). Unless the Tram line ran to where we were going, we were trapped in the Old City unless we were willing to pay $25 for a $5-10 cab fare. Another part of the sinister "turf" game was that although the cabbies we got in those other parts of the city used their meters, they absolutely WOULD NOT take us any closer than 3 or 4 blocks away. In some places, we like to save money on the hotel, and get an inexpensive place that's in a good location. Istanbul (a little bit like Venice) is the wrong place to do that. Don't skimp on your hotel (the Alzer is skimping); stay at a nice place outside of Sultanahmet, with full services and a doorman, and take one or two tours of the Sultanahmet sights. Pročitajte više

My daughter and I stayed here on the final nights of our trip to Turkey. The hotel has a great location with wonderful views, nice rooms, and a small restaurant. On the down side, my arrangements for a transfer from the airport and a room with twin beds were not made despite an email confirmation of the arrangements. When we called from the airport […] to find out why there was no transfer we were told to take a taxi. When I mentioned the email confirmation the person I was speaking to said he was not the person who reads emails. We were given a nice room with a view of the water. We were also not told that the transfer to the airport had to be paid in cash which became a problem since we were trying not to have a lot of lire left at the end of the trip. This hotel has a VERY convenient location. You are in walking distance of all major old town sights. You are also within a 10 minute walk of a tram station. The hotel is perfect. Wonderful breakfast on a roof top. Older but clean rooms. Wonderful staff. But be prepared for 5:30 wake up call from the local towers' sound systems, which is the custom in most middle eastern countries. Ear plugs help. The Turkish people are wonderful. Read a guide book before arriving.

Great location, until you are awakened to the Muslim prayer call coming from the Blue Mosque at 6am. Sounds like speakers are blasting in your room. It scared the heck out of me on our first morning. Next, no room service, the room is INCREDIBLY small, the doors were crazy hard to open and close and on our last night, despite being on the second floor […] (which turned out to be near street level) a man was peeping into our room at sunset, throwing pebbles at our window, in order to get our attention for his...um...climax. When we called down to the front desk to report the offending man, we were simply told to shut our curtain. Shocking to think someone would do such an offending act in front of the Blue Mosque. We loved staying at the Alzer Hotel. It is a brilliant position and inexpensive. Without being right in the touristy area of the city anywhere you want to go In Istanbul is easily accessible - the airports, Hagia Sophia, the superb Archeological Museum, the Grand and Spice Bazaars', are all within easy walking distance. The view of the Blue Mosque from […] the sixth floor restaurant, where we had breakfast each morning and many of our dinners is breathtakingly beautiful, especially at night. The food and service are excellent. There is very little noise from the front main street, even though our room was close to it, and some noise from next-door rooms, which didn't bother us. However, what makes the Alzer a cut above most other accommodation places is the attitude of the staff. The Alzer staff, from reception to cleaning, are very warm, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has a family feel to it. It's not large and feels a little dated, having been built in the 1970s, but it felt to us like a home away from home. Staff were genuinely interested in us and very helpful. We quickly slipped into a pattern of drinking Turkish black tea in the lobby, which has small tables and enjoyed chatting with staff. While the weather was getting chilly in late November the rooms and hotel generally were warm and comfortable. If you are looking for state of the art 5 star accomodation this isn't the place for you. However, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Alzer again. Pročitajte više

If you need car service to go to and from Ataturk airport, just ask the staff and they will arrange it.
