Holiday Inn Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) - Bar Harbor

I stayed here while visiting Acadia. The room was layed out very strangely, and had a weird shape. This contributed to the poor heating, coupled with the heated practically being behind the fridge and tv cabinet. I ran the heater on high for 7 hours before the room was a satisfactory temperature. I had to open the balcony door, and close towels into […] it, in order to cut down on the extremely cold draft pouring in. There were two balconies for the room, but I could only get to one. The hotel must have had renovations done recently, because the walls and ceilings were patched, and very poorly at that. There was mold in the bathroom, and stained towels. I found it odd that I could not find a map of the property or menus for the restaurants located on the property within the room. Good or location to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but not much else. When we arrived we were told the main hotel was booked and sent off to a remote building that apparently was part of the hotel. It smelled of mold and mildew and was a huge inconvenience especially since we were no where near the main hotel, restaurants, waterfront, etc. We left after one night and when I tried to convey my disappointment to the staff […] - they acted like they could care less. I would not EVER book this hotel again and would not EVER recommend it to anyone who asks. The staff at the Holiday Inn called a couple of days ahead of our arrival. The HI was closing for the season & they were moving us to a sister property, Harborside Inn. Wow, what a gift that turned out to be. Harborside was awesome. It's convenient to walk to everything in Bar Harbor & is minutes to the Acadia park entrance.

The hotel was nice. We had a room that faced the ocean. It was great the only problem (not then hotels fault) was in rain very hard during our stay. The room was clean and fairly big. Two chairs instead of couch (which would have been better). We requested a ocean side view and if I would not have asked, would not have gotten it, but in thier defense […] they fixed that problem. The only thing I could say was bad was the confusion on breakfest. i believe it was included and was not sure. I ate anyway but the desk could mention it at the time of check in. Just saying. I was there to run the Mount Desert Island Marathon. I called 2 weeks prior about a late checkout. They could not answer me and advised me to talk to the people when I checked in. The hotel itself is beautiful but quite old. The walls seem to be paper thin so you can hear what it going on in adjacent rooms. The lady next to us actually knocked on our door one mornng to complain that our TV was too loud and she could hear everything that was going on in our room. our room was located near the main road, so you can hear traffic go by constantly. the buffet breakfast had wonderful assortments. if you plan to eat breakffast in the hotel, make sure you sign up with the option to save u money.

Everything about our stay was very nice - great location, excellent room, and delicious breakfast buffet. The only big problem was that our room was located in a separate building for which you had to go outside to reach and had to climb a set of stairs to get into the main building. Also there was NO ELEVATOR in our building, which required another […] set of stairs - and lugging luggage up and down the stairs. Nice location - we had upgraded to Ocean View - the view was nice but not worth the extra money - to many trees and buildings in the way. Stayed two nights and had to request from front desk to have bath towels brought to room both days. Breakfast was supposed to be included in our package but we were still sharged for the buffet meal $$??? the room […] was very small had to move a chair to open door balcony and then move teh chair again to be able to walk around to get out blacony door. This is a lovely resort hotel with all amenities for a very reasonable price. A full buffet can be included in the price of your room. It is excellent. If you want to leave early there is a coffee shop for coffee/muffins etc to take with you for an early morning trip to the park. It was comfortable...the refrigerator bubbled and made noise all night. The breakfast was good...the receptionist at the front desk was awesome...she was upbeat and really tried to please her guests...I believe this hotel was under renovation and it was not quite finished yet.

Our stay was pleasant. The view from our ocean view room was beautiful. The hotel was located close to town. The shuttle service which was available was very convenient as parking in town is somewhat diffficult.The room itself was average. Our greatest concern was that the bathroom was not clean. It appeared not only dated but there was mold on the […] grout, old coffee drips on the woodwork and the hair dryer was very soiled. Upon entering the bathroom when we first arrived, I noticed hair on the floor. This was very unsettling. 4 o'clock check in was a surprise to us and a large number of other guests. Grumbling was shared. When I asked to see a manager I was accommodated after being told the check In time was included in their web site. I checked my email confirmation and didn't see it. There was a large grease spot on an upholstered bench in our room.

However, we were quited surprised to learn that we had to pay for the breakfasts for our 2 children, as we had booked a room that accomodated 4 people and was marketed as "Breakfast Included". The good points-- The hotel is in a great location. Close to the downtown area and Acadia National Park. Hotel restaurant(La Bella Vita)gets 3.5 out of five stars. Food was average/cheap pricing. Waitstaff at the bar area was excellent. Drinks were delicious and bartender was very knowledgable when explaining details about cocktails. The bad points---Handicap […] accessabilty was poor. We booked ahead with a handicap request and it didn't work out at all. The hotel separated our party into two different buildings,making it very difficult for the two elderly handicaped people in our party to get around. Their(handi) room was on the fourth floor all the way to the opposite end of the hall from the elevator(room 417). There was nothing 'handicap accessable' in the room aside from an extra handbar in the standard bath/shower unit. Very clean place with a location close to the city waterfront. We were not able to check in until 4:00 pm which was a bit later than we are used to. They were not able to make any exceptions, this was the only unfortunate thing about our 3 day, 3 night stay. A wonderful restaurant is located in the hotel!

You can tell that the facility is older by the bubbling wallpaper and the cracked tiles in the bathroom but the size of the room was nice. We liked the hotel. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable. Short drive to both Acadia and Bar Harbor. Adding the breakfast to our stay was a good deal and plenty to eat on the buffet in the morning and wide selection.

hotel and grounds were lovely- not your typical holiday inn. great views; morning coffee shop; italian restaurant. over a mile to bar harbor's town center/hub. a car was helpful, but not required b/c a free bus (island explorer) is provided to national park locations and town. priced much lower than the hotels and resorts "in town".

Initially I was hesitant to book this hotel as some of the reviews were less than stellar. I was wonderfully surprised...The room was large, clean and had a wonderful ocean view.
