"Great Service. Rooms that are falling apart."
I typically stay in the Garden Wing to utilize the Horizon Club services. While the lounge services and support staff are excellent, the rooms aren't keeping up. I stay in many, many hotels during the year and, comparatively speaking, the rooms are not up to the level of other five star hotels in the region. I understand that they have begun renovations […] on the "other side" of the hotel but the executive club level rooms are in dire needs of some updating. They are dark and wearing out rapidly. At some point, the value will no longer be there and they will start to lose clients. Our customers are located nearby....if it weren't for the convenience factor, I would have transferred to another hotel by now based upon the quality of the rooms alone. "A hotel to return to"
Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, for example I had a few very early morning starts and was to early for breakfast, when booking my early phone call I was asked if I would like coffee or tea. This arrived shortly after my morning wake up call and started the day for me. The hotel was very well placed for either outside dining or for shopping. "good hotel with some glitch"
The hotel per se is very nice, very close to a couple of big malls which is very handy. Health club was superb. Had a problem with the buffet breakfast that was included in the package that i have chosen. I was assured by the expedia staff that the breakfast will be for all the people staying in the room. But was told by the hotel that expedia will […] only pay for 3 adults which means that i have to pay the buffet breakfast for the child that is with us. I also have problem during check out when I was told by the hotel staff that check out is 12 nn, when in fact the package that I have chosen specify that it will be a late check out at 4pm. The stay is acceptable, but it is not the Shangri-la standard that you are expecting. The horizon club room be had was very small and poorly outfitted. Across the hall from us was a suite having new carpet laid and the smell of the contact cement was overpowering. The staff at this hotel are really what make it stand out as a true 5 star experience. Everyone I interacted with from the check in, to room service, to the concierge, to check out, ... were all fantastic examples of customer service and hospitality. If […] you find yourself doing business in the area (ie not makati), or on vacation, this is a great place to stay. If you are doing business in the main business district of makati, I would recommend getting a hotel closer to there as the traffic in manila is terrible (I sat for 40 minutes in traffic trying to get back to this wonderful hotel after one business meeting in makati). "Not worth the additional expense"
Very nice, friendly staff, timely room service,good food ( NOT GREAT FOOD!!! We stumbled into the breakfast buffet and were Shocked to find the cost was about $25.00 usd EACH....NOT included with the cost of theroom as we were told ). We were somewhat disappointed in the knowledge, or lack thereof, of the conseirge services. A broad range of local familiarity […] should be required!!! If you want to just stay in a very nice hotel room and not much else, Edsa Shangri-La is a good choice. If you prefer to have a more ' active ' stay, getting out and enjoying Manila, there are many, many, MANY other hotels to stay with most all the aminities without the EXORBITANT PRICES!!! This is the second time I have stayed here in less than a year, once for 8 nights and now for 6 nights- and this is the reception I got? Hospitality is on the surface ( a lot of people saying good morning) - but real attention to detail is lacking. THAT is the difference between a real 5 star hotel and one on the verge of slippage.
