after hearing about Datai being among the top ten beaches in the world, it was a but of a let down. Room was decent although the hotel restaurant could do with some improvement to menu and food quality. The exception was Jala restaurant which was outstanding.

Beautiful hotel, a bit aged and a bit pricey for a 4 star hotel, however saying that i arrived early and i was also upgraded to a partial sea-view room, the staff were really friendly, lots of things for kids to do, the pool is great as they have a water slide to keep the kids entertained for hours on end. Initially we were disappointed being allocated a room right above where the resort renovations were happening. We asked to be relocated, the staff could not assist us enough, moving us to the other end of the resort. We could not fault the very helpful and cheerful staff. The food in the restaurants was amazing with a breakfast to cater to all tastes. […] If you abide by the instructions re the monkeys, you'll enjoy the entertainment they provide. The monkeys night feeding on the ghost crabs is an interesting time waster prior to watching the sunset and going to dinner. The Andaman is a fantastic, unique resort in that it provides the excellent service of a 5 star facility but also has an eco-tourism bent to it that is very refreshing and encouraging to see in an asian country. It is the only resort in Langkawi set in a rainforest AND has its own beachfront with coral reef, making for fantastic wildlife viewing including […] snorkelling. They have complimentary rainforest walks morning and evening to spot wildlife, a coral nursery, complimentary gym and yoga classes and complimentary daily shuttles to Cenai beach and Kuah town if you want to be where the crowds are. The pool is lovely and cool to swim in and has its own waterslide for the kids. I loved swimming in the calm ocean til the water got too warm then I'd move to the pool. The staff are ever-friendly, courteous and eager to please without exception. The food was excellent, especially the sashimi at the Japanese restaurant. The seaview rooms are extremely generously sized and comfortable, the turndown service was a pleasant surprise. I would definitely return here for a relaxing, easy holiday and recommend it very highly. I also subsequently stayed at The Westin which I felt although bigger, was inferior to the Andaman. We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights following a whirlwind tour of Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi & Phomn Penh. The intention was to chill out for a short while before we started our long haul back to N.Ireland which would involve three consecutive flights. For this purpose the hotel was ideal. If you want to swim in the sea bring some rubber shoes to wear as there is quite a bit of loose coral still being washed up on the beaches following damage to reefs by the wave from the Tsunami of a couple of years ago. Andaman stay in October 2012 for 2 adults. Staff were very friendly. Part of resort still being upgraded: roof, south wing, pool bar, entrance road. This really didn't affect us too much - most of time out and about or down at beach. Maintenance needs to catch up a bit - some bubbling paint in room, basin tap wobbly and some rotten bits of wood located […] around the place. Loved the breakfast and dinner buffets. The hotel is located in a beautiful area. The ambience is perfect. Being surrounded by nature and the ocean makes this hotel a great attraction. The employees are very helpful, friendly and courteous. The service is generally very good. Vegetarian options are limited but they are always accomodating and will make what you request if it is possible. […] The ocean is very beautiful and the beach is private. The internet service however was not reliable and the prices in my view are generally steep considering that there is an additional 10% service charge. The flooring in the rooms could use a polish as they look a bit worn. Work on the hotel created noise during the day but that was tolerable. I was amazed at the low prices of this hotel compared with other 4.5/5 star hotels in Langkawi - now I know why! This hotel is seriously run-down and in need of a good overhaul. Rooms are shabby and look worn, food quality is average at best (although the cocktails are superb!), the attitude to service is appalling and you need to pay attention to ensure […] that the concierge/transportation desk don't take advantage of foreign visitors. For example, I booked a car and driver for a 4-hour tour at an agreed cost of RM 210; when I went along at the agreed time, they wanted me to sign a slip showing an hourly rate of RM 70. When I pointed out that this was for 3 hours and not 4, they argued I was wrong. I showed them the simple maths (by then I had 5 of their colleagues watching!) and then they said the 4th hour was complimentary! I changed the bill myself to show a total of 4 hours. A similar situation happened with an attempt to hire a car. I needed a basic car only and yet, even in low season, they claimed cars were only available at 5 grades higher - another attempt to get you to pay more. I had a security incident while there - stolen purse - and the Security Manager did all he could to dissuade me from making a police report. My advice: pay the extra to stay at The Datai - it's far superior (the Thai restaurant there is superb). Pročitajte više

The Andaman has a beautiful and has been recently upgraded so the rooms are looking fresh. The spa on the side of the mountain is beautiful and pur relaxation. Had a wonderful time I would go back. Food at the main resturant is lovely

A car is definitely needed for independent travel. The the hotel provides a limited shuttle service. Cars are available, for rental, from the hotel however seek other quotes. Food is expensive, however given the quality, and distance from suppliers, is reasonable. Great place and location, spa is fantastic. Food is good but could be better, some street stalls have a better taste. the vegitarian menu is very limited and even tho they say ask the chef for something ala carte, explaining that to the waitress is not easy. The Andaman is a truly lovely experience. We were there for a week and loved every minute. It's at the top end of Langkawi and so is away from the main area, but the hotel has cars and drivers, so you can easily get anywhere you want to go. They have a slide that kept my 3 busy for hours and the design of the pool is very pretty. Over priced for what it is (an average motel). Coakroach in the room, room not cleaned, food is average at best, the food at the beach bar is awfull, kids buffet is outside in the sun .....I would recommand a visit from Health and Safety there ! Ah yeah, high tide forget the beach as the beach is so thin, at low tide don t even think about swimming […] (rocks everywhere ...) . For our last day, the pool turned all green. We went to the Andaman for 4 days at the end of a tour round Malaysia and Singapore. It was a treat to ourselves and certainly didn't disappoint! We had an absolutely wonderful stay and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The location is beautiful and the private beach is a great plus. By far it is the best hotel in Langkawi. it has the longest private beach on the islan. Hotel is built within the jungle and the only voice you can hear during the night is the sounds of waves.. very nice lykept rooms , fab staff... I will definately go back there..

Perhaps it was the busiest season or...we didn't book the room directly to the Andaman. Someones review, the food is over price, maybe it is true as the Andaman is far from everywhere in the Lankawi island. It was almost no choice of the other way to eat while we are at Hotel. The pricing was same as when we eat out in Tokyo or more expensive. It was a bit shame as Malaysia should be much much more cheaper to eat out include cosidering the services. We had a nice 2 night stay at The Andaman hotel, Langkowi. The best thing about the hotel is the lovely setting where jungle meets beach in NW Langkowi. The beach is beautiful and clean (a rarity in Malaysia) and the service good. The weaknesses is that there is little sound insulation so the noisy neighbours kept us up at night in our room. If you are travelling with a young family, then this hotel is perfect as has a large pool area set up for kids, a large beach with a 'shallow' sea and lots of space.
