We checked into the Marriott hoping to have a romantic getaway in the Virgin Islands. Needless to say it did not live up to our expectations. We checked out almost immediately and went to the Ritz. It was worth the extra money!!! This place was musty and moldy, we tried two rooms hoping to get away from the damp mold smell. Even our sheets were damp. […] The staff was rude and never smiled. At first we thought the woman at the front desk might be having a bad day, we like to give people the benefit if the doubt. But we quickly realized that the culture at the mariott is all around poor customer service. The other guests were the typical cruise ship crowd. Lots of drinking and partying. Not romantic at all. I might have stayed if I were traveling with a friend and werent terribly allergic to mold, but not for a romantic getaway. The drinks and food were so overpriced that you could end up spending as much as a night at the Ritz anyway so I'm glad I got out of there when I did. Pročitajte više

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and spent 3 nights at the Reef side of the resort. We were located in the Seacliff Tower on the 2nd Floor, which was very convenient as we were able to easily walk down to the Morning Star beach or to the Reefs pools. The restaurants were a bit pricey and I am vegetarian, so there were not as many options as I would have liked, but still enough to eat something different everyday. The highlight of the trip was the beauty of the location of the hotel. It is situated on a corner of the island that has the most beautiful water!! To swim in it everyday was amazing!! We stayed at Morningstar Beach. Beautiful beach, nice room, helpful staff, shuttle to and from main hotel every 15 minutes (although no reason to leave Morningstar), nothing but favorable memories.

The location doesn't get any better than this, the private beach was great & all non motorized water accessories are included with your stay - floating chairs, snorkel gear & kayaks! We booked this hotel because Frommer's had given it the same rating as The Ritz and it was half the price. After staying there for about a week, we do not think this high rating is fair. Our thoughts - the hotel is located in a beautiful spot on St. Thomas facing Charlotte Amalie Harbor and the views are spectacular. But there are several negatives […] - (1) when we arrived, our room was not available until 5:00pm (and there were several other guests in the same situation on the day we arrived and on each day of our vacation - we observed them in the hotel lobby areas), (2) as to be expected, the restaurants at the resort are pretty pricey and the food is not very good, but on top of that, some of the staff were pretty surly and our orders were not correct about half of the time (Havana Blue and Sandbar are excluded from this critique as they were fantastic but they are privately owned and not part of the resort, although located next door), (3) the room itself, although clean, had a few maintenance problems - the bathroom door handle popped off with a loose screw and our tv remote didn't work (but the resort addressed that when we notified them), and (4) the resort beach and pools are very nice but also very crowded, so if you are looking for a private spot, you will not find it here. There was some confusion regarding the type of room that we booked and we were put in a different section of the hotel than we expected. Due to the fact that our booking showed no type at all, we actually received a downgrade from what we had expected/paid for. The front desk was not helpful and told us that even if we found documentation, it could […] take them 'a couple of days' to figure it out and change our rooms. We opted to be happy for the fact that we had a great ocean view and not mess with changing rooms halfway through our stay, but as a Gold status Marriott member, I deal with a lot of Marriott's (and hotels in general) and this front desk service was the worst I have ever received. The hotel on Morningstar beach was a bit run down, but clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurants had the same menus available for each meal, each day, so the food selection was repetitive and not the tastiest. For some reason, fresh fuit and vegetables were non-existant!! The hotel is nice and the beach and pool are beautiful. The restaurants are overpriced and serve average hotel food. The hotel is not located near any shops or restaurants so you have to take a cab if you want anything outside the hotel ($10 per person each way). We would return if we got an awesome deal, otherwise it is overpriced.

For a large hotel with all the amenities, this is the place. If you want small and quiet look for a boutique hotel. I cannot complain about anything for The Frenchmen's Reef.. The staff could not be more friendly and the rooms are well kept with very comfortable beds.

The whole experience with this hotel was awful from the minute we walked on property. The room they gave us had no linens on the bed, was not as advertised and the staff was rude and unaccomadating. They changed our room the second day, essentially kicked us out of the room we were in and then did not give us another oom until 4:30 that day. very helpful, pleasant staff. Food was very good at the restaurants. The hotel store was nice and had a large offering of sandwiches and salads and you could make a picnic to take to the beach. Hotel provided the umbrellas, chairs, and towels both at pool and at beach.

thoroughly enjoyed our stay at frenchmans reef. The beach was beautiful. Big waves, our 14 year old son couldnt stay away. My daughter and I lounged at the pool adjacent the beach which had comfy lounge chairs with plush cushions. Coco Joes was our favorite with great burgers, salads and wings. The infinity pools at the reef were wonderful. My favorite overlooked the ocean. A little difficult to get four lounge chairs if you got there late morning. Buffet Breakfast was worth the money, many choices, omlette station, mimosa and bloody marys included! They do have elevators, but keep in mind alot of stairs. This is why the have such great views Rooms were very clean, comlpimentary waters and coffee in the rooms. The view from the balcony at the Rum Bar is just as beautiful as the website. Sundry store had ice cream, danish, salads and fruit. Be sure to take advantage of free gift coupons when you check in. We received a sweet sterling silver starfish necklace and earings at the jewerly stores located on the property. Coupons also included discounts for certain restaurants and excursions. The water taxi to town from the hotel was fun..however we tried to get a ride back to hotel and the boat was full..so be sure to be early for the boat which left the town on the hour. The hotel was very nice. We stayed in the rooms right on the beach. Our room was listed as garden view....that is streching it...more like walkway / road view. The only view worth having is the ocean or partial ocean view. But then who goes to stay in the room and look at the view. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Beach and views are amazing. Beach chairs were always available and pools were not crowded. Restaurants are great, but expensive. I did have one bottled water in my room that was actually filled with some sort of lemon flavored alcohol, but I'm sure that was left by a previous guest. Overall a great stay!

What an amazing way to relax. The staff was very helpful and responsive to my needs. the balcony door was locked and they quickly fixed it. I have stayed at this resort before. The food at Havana Blue is very good. Naturally everything at the resort is expensive. I would recommend this hotel.

Great location, nice beach, nice facilities. The bad: tried all the resort restaurants and the food was very disappointing, and significantly overpriced. The service was poor and unprofessional. This hotel was amazing. Breathtaking views from any window in the hotel, attentive staff and everything was very clean. There was a desk dedicated to finding activities for you to do And to help get you around. The only negative that I would have to say would be that some of the staff seem like they're just doing their jobs and don't make the effort […] to seem like they care, and the food in all the restaurants is just good, not great or fantastic. Also watch out for the restaurant that is on-site but a shuttle ride away, Blue something (I can't remember the name) they don't let you know Pricing unless you ask, and the bill was quite shocking Fourmile that I could get in my local town for half the price. Guest services promised to let me know when the room was ready and 5 hours later, it still was'nt. Front desk was quite rude and there was a huge cockroach in the room. Room service took an hour and fifteen minutes to deliver some very cold pasta. Could not walk to the beach as the pathway was overun by about 12 or so huge iguanas.

The Harbour View wing was a bit dated and our rooms, though potentially upgraded within the past few years were still not as high class as I would expect with a $50 million dollar renovation. The rest of the hotel (the public spaces at least) were breath-taking and fantastic. The views of downtown Charlotte Amalie and of the Caribbean were perfect, […] the weather was great and the ambiance was perfect. The food at the hotel was fairly average. The prices are quite steep for the quality, especially the buffet that was at Coco Joe's. It was $49.95/person one night and $59.95/person the next night and both nights the food was average buffet food at best. I would legitimately pay maybe $25/person for that quality. Everything else was great. Easy to rent equipment for the beach, easy access to the docks for transportation to downtown and for activities. The Adventure Center was great, very helpful. Excellent! We spent six days prior to Christmas at Frenchman's Reef in a waterview balcony room and couldn't have been happier. The staff were friendly, cheerful and pleasant and the food--at least at Sunset Grill and Havana Blue--was outstanding. True, dining was pricy but all dishes were outstanding. What we tended to do was have lunch at Sunset Grill […] and then pop down to the onsite deli for a sandwich for dinner on the nights we weren't going out to dinner. Breakfast buffet, too, was outstanding with not only made-to-order omelets, but French Toast and pancakes, surprisingly crispy bacon and sausage. The only negatives would be that it's a bit of a hike from Frenchman's Reef to Morningstar Beach (but there is a shuttle that's there in a flash) and the internet room (business center) is the PITS--never did get anywhere near my personal or work email and when I went to print my boarding pass for the flight home, the staff member sent to the room to assist me gave up and took me behind the scenes to print it out. The hotel provides great amenity, location, clean room, access to beach with reasonable price. It can get crowded at times. Watch for the "vacation club" presentation, which although gives you some free perks, can run long.
