A very nice clean hotel located close to Piazza San Marco. Room was small but well equipped with all modern amenities. Great Buffet breakfast each day with many choices. Good value for Venice. Friendly staff, Would stay here again and recommend to my friends.

I have used this hotel in the past on two occasions and on my third visit it did not disappoint. Its location is excellent, the rooms are very comfortable and the staff helpful - everything you need for a holiday in Venice.

Fabulous location, easy five minute stroll from vaporetto stop to hotel. Friendly helpful staff, amazing breakfast and great room overlooking canal, perfect for watching Gondolas go by. Only downside, small bathroom, however didn't spend much time in there anyway.

Very nice old hotel. Good breakfast selection. Our double superior room overlooked a street-could see a canal to the left. Bathroom interesting- we didn't like the shower stall and curtain directly by the toilet- sort of a mini wet room, but we got the hang of it. The best feature of the Best Western Hotel Ala is it's location - a short walking distance from San Marco, Grand Canal, La Fenice. etc. The hotel is clean and quite comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only issue was the 'paper thin' walls!

It was a great location and so close to the public boat stop. It was so convenient and so close to the square and so easy to get to the Rialto bridge by public boat. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend to family and friends! It would have been nice to get tea and coffee making facilities in the room though.

It is in a very location...easy to walk just about everywhere and just steps away from a vaparetto stop. The breakfast was quite good with a good selection of items. Unfortunately, there were just too many flaws to overlook. The room itself was an adequate size, but the bathroom was pathetic. There is no shower stall, it's just a curtain hanging so […] near the toilet that it is impossible to sit without the curtain touching you. There isn't even a ledge or anything to prevent the entire floor from getting soaked, so once you've showered you now have a wet floor and wet curtain to deal with. we also were not happy with the amount of hairs found throughout the room and bathroom. The blanket was covered in them so I am absolutely sure it hasn't been washed in a very long time. Also, the walls are quite thin so when the maid stood outside our door screaming into her cell phone early one morning we had to hear every word of it. The hotel also needs to take more seriously their security. All of the room keys are in slots directly behind the reception desk in full view. Very central, in the heart of things, it is so easy to reach most sights from the hotel. Rooms are on the small side but clean. The breakfast buffet gives an amazing choice of savoury and sweet things. Fairly quiet, although some rooms suffer from the thumping of the music in the adjacent bar below.

Ok. Hotels are expensive in Venice. With that said, sometimes its Better to pay more and get good value than pay less and get way less. The room we stay in was literally 7 feet wide. The decor was at least 30 years old (but not antique). The air conditioning did not work. Convenient location to Giglio Vaporetto stop which made our arrival with luggage a snap, but you need to take the local #1 which can be too slow and crowded for every day use. First class hotel with really helpful and courteous staff. Location is outside the old town so it's a short walk into town, no problem except for the infirm or elderly, but the location and views are great. If visiting in summer, wherever you stay, aircon is essential: it gets seriously hot!

Hotel Ala is a lovely hotel with a wonderful breakfast, nice clean air conditioned bedrooms, and is in a location that is truly second to none with it's own water bus stop (giglio) and a short 5 minute walk to San Marco square. The only things that stop me from making an unreserved recommendation are these: The shower (in our room, at least) was absolutley […] tiny! I had to inhale in order to squeeze into it. The "free" wifi cost money at the desk, and although tea was available for free it had to be requested from the front desk. As others have already said, the location is ideal (just two minutes walk from St Marco Square- Vaperetto stop Giglio is probably the closest and is literally on the same street as the hotel up a small passage way. Staff are friendly and very helpful. There is a 24hr secure luggage store that is free of charge. Breakfast is good quality and always came […] away having eaten too much ! (Bit disappointed with the coffee as was filter but would have liked a choice of cappucino etc... but just being super fussy) Only down side to the Hotel is that it is right near Prada, Gucci, etc.... so make sure you take the credit cards off your Wife beforehand! !!! Had no idea what the hotel was like when we booked and were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. We stayed on the 2nd floor which required an elevator trip and then a couple more stairs but not a hinderence for capable walkers. The room was quite spacious considering we were in Europe, the bathroom was very small with only a shower. The shower had a "body […] jet spray" system that made me want to get home and install one in our shower! The location was far enough away from the hustle and bustle of St. Mark's square but an easy walk away. Breakfast was the best we had during our entire trip, I don't know what they did to make those scrambled eggs so good but they were the best I've ever eaten. The hotel is a short walk from the "Giglio" water stop - it's a hike from the San Marco stop! The cost of going to San Marco and then hiring a porter to haul our bags to the hotel wasn't much less than getting a private water taxi right from the airport - and that would have taken about 2 hours less to get there. We took the public water bus to the Rialto bridge once and walked there once - the bus was a lot easier! The WIFI worked better than any other hotel we stayed at on our trip. The room was clean and comfortable, although small, and overlooked a canal where each evening we were treated to the sounds of passing gondoliers singing along to guitar or accordion - very atmospheric! Lovely bathroom with excellent shower. One grumble - no tea/ coffee making facility in room. We had to phone down to reception and they would send a […] kettle of boiled water up! But during limited hours only, and I like tea on tap at all hours!! Also I had envisaged breakfast on the roof terrace.....this was a limited continental type breakfast and the roof terrace thing seems to me a bit of an afterthought, so don't book the hotel on the strength of it. The breakfast downstairs in the breakfast room is fairly basic but you can fill up on it.
