"Unexpected gem!"
We selected this hotel while standing at baggage claim at the Charleston airport at 8:30 pm. We drove in the dark across a mysterious bridge over... a swamp? We really had no idea where we were. We were delighted when we saw the hotel, but even more so when we saw the view out our balcony in the morning! We really enjoyed our stay at the Planter's Inn. The staff was incredibly accommodating, and guided us to very good local spots for meals. My husband and I got married in the courtyard in 1999 since then we have stayed there many times. I am happy to report that this last stay was just as wonderful if not better than the first time we stayed there. The hotel is immaculate. It was very nice to walk to our restaurant for dinner and we loved being able to walk out right into the market and shop! "Top Shelf all the way--5 stars for me."
This was one of the most wonderful hotel stays we have had in years. From the Bell Captains, to the front desk who greeted us every day with a smile and "is there anything we can do for you?" to the superb housekeeping staff who was rarely seen but you could feel their presence in the condition they left the room and bath to when returning for the evening […] with the music playing so softly and small candies left. ABSOLUTELY TOP SHELF. What a fabulous location, just a gorgeous comfortable place to spend your time in Charleston. I grew up in Charleston, SC, so going back and visiting as a tourist was a great experience. I got to see so much more by staying in the city and walking to all the historical locations. We never had to get into the car the whole time we were there. Great restaurants were everywhere, but our favorite one was at the Planters Inn, called the Peninsula.
