The location was excellent, and the views of the ocean were beautiful. However, the rest of the hotel was mediocre at best. The room was the size of a matchbox. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable--I woke up stiff and sore every day, and I'm in my mid-20's--and the sheets had holes in them. The breakfast was lackluster, when you actually get one.. […] Their morning person was an hour late one day, and since we had an early appointment we ended up having to skip it. The worst was the service. The person working (who I guessed was the General Manager) when we checked out was just plain rude. I stood there for 10 minutes at the counter ringing the bell and shouting "hello", to be ignored by him in the back office. When I opened the door to leave, he finally came to help, then proceeded to argue with me about how long I was standing there. He dismissed my complaints about missing breakfast by cutting me off mid-sentence and waving his hand impatiently in my face. And, above all, he couldn't be bothered to tell me that all I needed to do was to hand in my key card to check out.. He tore it out of my hand then stood there staring at me like I was an idiot. Nice hotel for the price. Really close to the beach and wharf. Some noise from the neighbours, and I would't drink the water there. It smells and tastes bad.

Found this place while going through Santa Cruz. Hotel was cheap and clean and pretty close to the pier. Can be difficult to get to since it's on a one way road but we parked the car and walked to the pier.

The best thing about this hotel was it's proximity to the beach and boardwalk. The parking is included but the lot is constructed for frustration and tight quarters. There is no pool but they offer a large hot-tub that unfortunately never seems open. The room was nice and clean and the cleaning service was great. The staff was fabulous and helpful! We stayed in 4 other hotels/motels during this trip and this was our favorite because of the staff. The price was a little high but all the facilities in the area were similar. so the locale (close to the beach and boardwalk) and the friendliness would make me recommend to everyone.

We just stayed a Tuesday night. As others stated the plumbing is very loud but we just slept there and left the next morning. Staff was nice, breakfast was fine, room was clean. Beds aren't the most comfortable but we were so tired we really didn't notice much.

You are paying a premium for the proximity of the hotel to the beach and the boardwalk - popular destinations in Santa Cruz. You are not paying for the quality of the room nor its amenities. The breakfast was fair - had gas station-type muffins and pastries, 2 kinds of so-so cereals, apples, and vending machine-type coffee; peanut butter and loaf bread. […] You had to scrub clean a less than mediocre kitchenette if you wanted to see your cleaning deposit again. Location was great - took 5 minutes to walk to pier and beach; 10 to 15 minutes to walk to boardwalk. Again, you're paying for location and not necessarily for the quality of the hotel. The location of HoJos is very convenient, especially to the Boardwalk, Wharf, and UCSC. Pretty satisfied with the experience. Neighbors were a bit noisy, as was the shower next door.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that this hotel overlooked the ocean from atop W Cliff Drive. The hotel itself is nothing to get excited about, it a standard HOJO motel, and the continental breakfast with disappointing (stale cereal), but its proximity to the beach and Boardwalk at half the price of hotels around it made it a good choice. We usually go for the cheapest room possible, and this time wanted an upgrade for our anniversary. Our check-in was easy, and service was attentive without being butt-kissing. The grounds of the hotel were a bit small, but well maintained. Our room was clean and ready, and the bed was better than average for most hotels. Hot water was super hot. The […] Jacuzzi tub was big enough to fit my husband and I with only limited squishing, and considering he's 6'2" I felt like this was a major accomplishment. The hotel was pretty central to the warf, the boardwalk, the coast, and good restaurants. I have a few slightly negative things, but they weren't really that big of a deal. First the room had an odd smell (I'm super sensitive to smells and my husband didn't notice it) of moisture and cleaner. Second, the Jacuzzi tub, the bathroom fan and wall heater all were quite noisy and it was hard to relax with them on. The arrangement of the parking lot was odd, and a little crowded. I really enjoyed my stay here. The room we had was clean and fresh, with a view of the pier and ocean. The room was a little small, but since my wife and I only stayed here for one night, it was perfect. Hotel is priced right. Had a view of the ocean and pier. It is walking distance to pier and boardwalk and just a short drive to downtown night life. Room was clean but the tub was a little dirty. Hotel was quiet and plenty of free parking.

Great place for the price and perfect for those who wish to be a short walk from the Boardwalk, Wharf, etc. We loved the fact that we could park the car for the weekend and avoid the ever-growing traffic in the area. yes on 1 condition. I booked this room from Montana 4 my daughters honeymoon. They told my on the phone that there room would have an ocean view. Because that is they 1 thing they wanted, and it DID NOT have a clear ocean view. And they said it had a hot tub, but it was just jets in the bath tub. I'm sorry but you have to tell people that you have a whirlpool tub and not a Jacuzzi. I was mislead when I booked this room because the listing said it was a king size room with a Jacuzzi. I guess their idea of a Jacuzzi is a 2 seater whirlpool bath.... in the bathroom...next to the toilet...nice!

Nice hotel for a short stay. The room we were in didn't have kitchen facilities, as such... but there was a mini fridge and kettle. Bath was spotless on arrival, and the shower head was awesome. Our had the bath/Jacuzzi/shower combo, and while we didnt actually try it out fully, it looked the part. The room itself was a pretty reasonable size - perfect […] for 2 people. Bed was pretty comfy, but we only had 3 pillows... seriously? There was also a nice flat screen TV with a decent array of channels I think the thing we enjoyed the most, however, was the location. It was literally a stones throw from the boardwalk and pier, but a little of the main routes, so nice and quiet at night... and we didnt have any issues leaving our car in the hotel car park. Overall the experience was great. The only thing I would suggest is they invest in some better mattresses. Both, my husband and I, tossed and turned both nights because the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. Both of us had aching backs from two nights. It's hard to enjoy your stay when you can't sleep.

Room are cleaned everyday, good position, parking, internet. Don't count on breakfast, poor. SPA and pool is just a fake. I reserved an ocean view room and I got a "partial ocean view room" and very tiny for the price.

For the price the hotel suited our needs. Only discrepancy was the time of check-in. We arrived at 2:00pm since the internet said 2:00pm check-in, however the hotel desk said check-in was not till 3:00pm. Came back after 3:00 but room was not ready for another 20 minutes.
