Holiday Inn San Diego-On The Bay - San Diego

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Bay before and did not hesitate to book it again for my pre-cruise stay. I ate dinner at the Elephant and Castle and the food was excellent. A very short, easy walk to the pier and I love having a bayview room to watch the ship pull into port. The next time I am in San Diego, I will be staying here.

My husband and I always stay here, its within walking distance to great restaurants and the bay where we like to spend our time. The hotel is always wonderful

I always prefer the Holiday on the Bay when I come to SD it has by far the best view I have found. Always happy to be there

I will stay here again if I visit San Diego in the future. It was clean and the location was very convenient. It is by the bay and you can walk to downtown quite easily. I liked it that in the morning you can step outside and walk along the bay to go anywhere. The overall stay was great, and the hotel is older but relatively great. However, because I purchased my stay via hotels.com, I was not treated the same as those who made their reservations through the hotel. I had to check in a night earlier than my initial reservation, but still had to change rooms the next day to my original reservations, but the […] hotel would not allow me to transfer into another room until regular check in time. Yet, I witnessed other new guess check in well before the regular check in time. Rooms were not the type we paid for. They gave use the cheapest rooms they had and neglected to inform us of this difference. Plumbing was leaky and the rooms reeked of mold. Front desk staff could care less when I complained.

The Hotel is in three different buildings. We stayed at the south tower. The Hotel is right across the street from the bay, so for convenience it's five star. For a hotel room it's 3 stars. Rooms were ok, but if you want a great place to spend the night this is not the place. Might look instead at the Embassy Suites or Hilton, both are also close to […] the bay. Parking was not free as the Hotels.com operator had said. The shuttle bus did not run to the convention center which for us was inconvenient

It is amazing how a hotel could offer good quality without seeing much employees around. It was in rare situations that I saw one, but the overall service was very good.

We spent a delightful 3 days at this hotel in the heart of the city. We walked to many of the city's highlights and took the light rail to more remote sites. Don't overlook the ferry to Coronado just across the bay. Hotel staff was courteous and helpful.

The best thing about Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay is its location and proximity to the Midway and other maritime attractions. You can walk to these and not have to worry about finding a parking place once you have left your car at the hotel for a hefty fee. There are several good restaurants also within walking distance. It was a short drive to […] Little Italy. The room was small. The beds were double, not queen. My husband I were traveling with a grandson so it was pretty close quarters. There was a nice big shower. The balcony had a nice view of the waterfront and airport. It is very noisy in the area but the room seemed well insulated and you couldn't hear the noise when the doors were closed. T\here was no fridge or microwave which would have been nice traveling with a kid who needs regular infusions of hot chocolate and popcorn. For the price you might expect more amenities or a continental breakfast. However, the location was pretty well worth it for the things we wanted to see and the hotel was well maintained. I've stayed at this property several times for business, and it's been great. Good location and proximity to the airport. My last stay was personal, and as such I stayed with my family. We stayed over a weekend, and the personality of the hotel was entirely different. We checked in rather late, around 10pm, and found the hotel full. The room we were […] given was directly in front of the ice machine and elevators. It was also much smaller than other rooms in which I've stayed at this hotel (and it was oddly shaped as well). I rarely do this, but I asked for a different room. After some searching, the pleasant folks at the front desk did find us a different room, but it wasn't much better. The hotel desperately needs a refresh. Example: The door between the bedroom and the bathroom is made of frosted glass, and slides on a track. It's a nice architectural detail, however, if you're staying with someone else there's no privacy in the restroom. That's fine for a business traveler on their own, but not so great for a family. The other serious problem with the hotel is the noise level. As I said, we were there over a weekend and experienced the typical frat-party-level of noise; problem is, the walls are like cardboard. Bottom line: I will stay at this property again when traveling for business. It's actually a nice quiet hotel during the week, and its proximity to downtown and the airport can't be beat. That said, I won't take my family there again. Seeing the hotel through their eyes made it much less appealing for me. We asked for a specific room only to be give a key to a whole different building. Luckily when we called the front desk they were very nice and moved us to where we originally wanted to be. I don't know why our request didn't go through and thank goodness the hotel wasn't full so we could move and enjoy our stay!

We rode the train, so nice and close, as well as inexpensive day passes for the bus/trolley to old town and other locations. Hotel offers transport to a few places like seaworld. The hotel decor is old and outdated, but we knew that so were not disappointed. Definitely recommend springing for bay view if possible.

The hotel was great !! From the time that we got out of the cab and the staff helped with our bags, but also asked when and if we needed a cab back to the airport. The only bad thing is that their dining closes at midnight..We only had about 15 min to order food as we had a late flight in. Plenty of cabs for catching that early morning flight.....

The main lobby is beautiful. The other hotel lobby was not great, but my room was great and I had great views. I really enjoyed the little hotel. They also have an airport shuttle which is great. A very nice hotel for the price.

Nothing bad to say- friendly and clean

There was only one lift working the other 2 were out of sevice.

Right on the Bay......Directly across the street from the Cruise Terminal, our ship docked directly across from our room, maybe 50 yards away. Midway carrier museum and many old sailing ship and submarines (US and Russian) museums as well. Only place to stay if you are going cruising........even frequent free shuttles to/from the airport.

This was the perfect hotel experience. We got a room right on the Holiday Bowl Parade route with a gorgeous view of the harbor and the parade, especially from the balcony. Customer service was outstanding all the way around - from ensuring I got a room with a view of the parade to the valet parking and bell hops to the restaurant, the staff accommodated […] all of my needs. I might even come back to stay next year even if my team isn't playing in the Holiday Bowl. We had such a great time and the Holiday Inn On The Bay helped ensure a pleasant vacation. This is the perfect location in lovely surroundings with reasonable rates and good amenities.

Short flat walk from train station to hotel. Hotel very clean with friendly & helpful staff. They stored our luggage on the morning before our ship "Zaandam" sailed for OZ at 4pm. The terminal is a 5 minute walk across the road but they arranged shuttles for guests & luggage then driven direct to the entrance of the check in terminal. Elephant & Castle pub/bistro/beer garden highly recommended for outlook, food & cold beer, a very friendly, happy atmosphere and the prices for food & drinks are very reasonable. My bride booked this hotel due to its proximity to our wedding reception. When I arrived at the front desk, in my wedding tux, I mentioned that that I just came from my wedding reception - he offered no comments and proceeded to tell me it would be an additional $22 to park our vehicle! He then gave me directions to the parking lot that would be closest […] to our room - the doors were locked and we had to walk around the exterior of the hotel....in a wedding gown and tux!! My harbor view room had a view of the roof of the entry portal. It was right next to the elevator with no sound proofing, so I was treated to a loud grinding noice every 30 seconds. The WiFi was overloaded. Don't stay there unless you get a 3rd floor room away from elevators -- and they won't guarantee anything in advance.

We stayed at this Hotel for two nights. The room was located on the 14th floor in the South Tower. Everything was very clean. Staff at check in and check out was fast and friendly. Overall a very good experience. Would stay there again also recommend this Hotel to others.

Great location. So close to airport. Easy walk to Harbor, downtown and Little Italy.

This is a great place to stay either before or after a cruise from San Diego. To all intents and puposes it is across the street and within walking distance of the cruise terminal. It is also within walking distance of the maritime museum, USS Midway, Harbor Tours and Seaport Village. The only problem was with the elevators. Great view Small rooms,realy small bathrooms, old old carpet, the beds were ok Food, fair but the service was poor The bartender was great, but dont try to watch a ball game wail sitting at the bar all of the TV's are behind you

Great location for harbor activities and close to downtown, too. Comfy beds, but I requested a king and got 2 doubles instead. Parking very expensive. Nice pool, helpful staff. If you don't get a harbor view, get a room on the city side at least 8 floors up or you'll be looking at the parking lot and walls from your balcony. More than one luggage rack […] would be helpful. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. I didn't care for the view. I requested a balancy room overlooking the ocean, close to the elevator when I booked the room. The ocean views were taken and it took some time to locate a room close to the elevator. However, over all the room was good and within walking distance to restaurants

Fair at best. Couple elevators were shut down and under repair, so took long time to get too higher floors; All vending machines on all floors were not stocked. Really like having a soda late at night and had to purchase through the gift store during day. Beds were not all that comfortable. I was feeling back pains after second night.
