The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. However, the water in the shower never got above lukewarm. I told the young lady at the front desk on my way to breakfast - we must have misunderstood each other -- I was leaving that day and only wanted to inform them. She evidently sent the maintenance man up to my room right away, even with the "Do […] Not Disturb" sign hanging on the door. All of my personal stuff was still scattered about the room! I have stayed twice in 2012, at Thanksgiving and now at Christmas. The hotel is conveniently located close to major shopping, and importantly, near my extended family. The facility is clean and well maintained, though not luxurious. It has value for the price. The lobby is neat and uncluttered, and well decorated with a nice fire place and ample seating […] areas. The staff is courteous and attentive. If one is seeking a venue from which to travel effortlessly to and from Newark Airport or New York City, without paying New York rates, this hotel might be for them. The pool is decent, and the gym has a nice set up, although at least one treadmill was not working and the weight machines had substantial wear-and-tear and could be upgraded. I stayed at this hotel because I had an event very early the next morning and I do not live in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by its modern decor and very friendly staff. "Do not eat at the restaurant"
The hotel was fine, nothing spectacular. I was pleased that my room was clean. I had dinner at their restaurant "Chives" and it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. On top of that, the service was lousy. There were only 4 small tables seated, so I know they were not understaffed. My server was wearing an arm brace that was dirty and everytime […] he served me he put it in my face. Then he was up behind the bar just hanging out while I was waiting for my bill. The rolls were cold and hard like rocks. The soup was obviously microwaved, and the salmon was so salty I thought I was going to get sick. I have never written a bad review online.... everyone needs to know not to waste their money at this restaurant. Especially since my meal for one person was $50.00! The Crowne Plaza in Fairfield overall was fine. Looks like a relatively new hotel. Room was clean, comfortable (they did give us the handicap room however). The hotel restaurant was another story. I was with a large family gathering and we had a buffet breakfast. Service was fair to poor but the waitress automatically added 20% gratuity to the bill […] when I paid for all. No mention anywhere of an automatic gratuity and it was a buffet so they did nothing but bring coffee and juice. Won't be going back there for sure. I was pleased with this hotel on several levels. Its location was perfect being close to the highway. The room was modern and well furnished with the free Wi-fi working perfectly.
